I found a psychiatrist that I'm really interested in seeing but he's not currently accepting new patients. The lady who works in his office said to try back in a few months. He does a combination of therapy/medication.

I have enough refills/meds to last me for a few months so I'm going to wait it out and then try again.

I hope they can fit you in at some point. Maybe politely touch base with their office manager a bit sooner to see what the new patient status is...good luck!

instead of waiting/checking in, is there a waiting list you could be put on to be notified when he's taking new clients?

It may work to go through a referral process. Talk to your family doctor about getting a referral to a psychiatrist. They will get the ball rolling and I believe improve wait times. Advise your doctor of your interest in a particular pryschiatrist. If you discuss with them the reasons for your preferrence they may agree and press the referral harder. I really lucked out getting mine. I did get the one I mentioned to my doctor.

The only downside is that I lost my insurance and can't get an appt. with my family doctor. Maybe if I called him, that would work.

I just want to give up. I'm tired of living and I just wish I could go to sleep and never wake up.

It sounds like waiting for this particular psychiatrist to have time is not a good idea. Are you still seeing the therapist? Can you try someone else if not? Maybe you can switch to this guy later if you still want to.

It may be good anyway to try to avoid fixating on one person. No single other person is the key to you getting well.

Because you are having financial issues, why not continue seeing your therapist which is bound to be much less expensive than a pdoc, and have a regular GP handle meds which is also less expensive?
