So after 7 weeks of vacation my therapist was supposed to be back this week. At least that's what she had said in June: "around August 15th" Already you can tell she doesn't care to be more precise. I didn't send her a single email in these 7 weeks. It was an actual effort on my part because as she doesn't answer them nor in writing nor in session, I thought: what's the point? So I didn't send her anything. Last Thursday, though, I sent her one email asking if she was back this week and whether I could come on Tuesday (that is: tomorrow). No answer. So yesterday I sent her a second email asking again if she was back. No answer either. It's been 4 days and no answer at all. I'm starting to think she doesn't want to answer me. Yes, she's on holidays but since she's starting again this week, wouldn't be wise to read her emails?? I can't be the only client asking about schedules. I'm thinking she's seriously incompetent and doesn't give a single **** about her clients. I'm both furious and worried she's somehow mad at me. Thoughts? Thanks in adavance.

I am surprised you guys did not set up an appt before her leave. 7 weeks is a long time to be out. Must be nice for her. You said she does not address emails. She may not have seen your emails if that's the case. It's odd that you received an email address from her but she does not actually respond. Why give one at all? Have you tried leaving a voice message?

Seven weeks is a very long time to be on vacation. If she gets a lot of emails and didn't answer any while she was away, I can't begin to imagine how many she has. With that, its possible she just hasn't been able to read/respond to them yet. I also think it's odd, however, that she provides an email address but doesn't make any acknowledgement of your emails. Is there any other way to get ahold of her?

I don't think she's mad at you Myrto or that she doesn't want to see (or work with) you.

Maybe not very organised(?). If she said around 15th Aug maybe she wasn't sure or there was possibility of extending her holidays. So maybe she's not back yet. Or she's just back and had a backlog of messages (voicemails and/or emails) to sift through. Maybe she doesn't have her head in the game yet, *if* she is even back. Or...maybe something came up in her life.

That being said, I am not excusing her. If she wasn't sure of the date, she should have implemented a system where for ex, she'd let clients know when she's back. Basically, some sort of continuity of care, rather than letting her clients stew in uncertainty.

And you did nothing wrong in asking when she is seeing people again. Is there a receptionist or someone at her office who might know when she's back etc.?

Can you call? Ex T had an email address she almost never checked.

Seven weeks must have been excruciating for you! I, too, would question the T's competence. Perhaps she didn't know exactly when she'd be back, but it seems unprofessional of her not to offer you some kind of plan, like a tentative appointment with a promise to confirm or reschedule by, say, August 15.

But, as others have said--and not to excuse her--maybe she's disorganized or she's going through some kind of personal crisis that requires her to be away for so long. Who knows?!

I hope that you hear from her soon. Meanwhile, it sounds like it's about her, not you, so don't blame yourself. Hey, you might get more free help here than you would from somebody too lame to take a minute to read and reply to your email! Best of luck to you!

Thanks for all the replies! Yes she checks her emails, she just chose not to answer me. God knows why. She finally sent me a text this morning saying she'll soon tell me about her schedule for next week. So it's not 7 weeks now, it's 8 weeks without a therapist! I'm so ****ing mad. She doesn't care that it's been so long and this week has been tough for me, she didn't even ask. I'll give her a piece of my mind next week, that's for sure.

I Am so sorry your t abandoned your for 8 weeks. Did she leave you a referral or contact info for another t? Sounds like she has been away and is distracted by her holidays. You deserve a referral or some kind of support while she was away. Where was her duty of care for you for the last eight weeks?

No she didn't give me a referral. Tat's not how she works. I'm sure it didn't even cross her mind I might need one.

Do you know that she's definitely on vacation? Perhaps she has had a personal crisis or grievance and does not want to make her clients worry.
