My psychiatrist is retiring in June. I've been with him biweekly for 15 years, so I'm really nervous about finding a new one. I made a list of pdocs that take my insurance and who are probably taking new patients. My doctor looked through it and told me which ones he knew and recommended.
Now he wants me to start calling them, but I have no idea what I should say or even what I want. "Hello. I'll be looking for a new psychiatrist starting in June"...? Doesn't that sound stupid? Or am I supposed to ask to meet with them now so I can start evaluating them? Or am I just supposed to find out if they will be taking patients then? Also if I'm supposed to meet them now will my insurance even cover double therapists? My psychiatrist seems to think I'll already know what to say. And that it's really important to start now.Help? |

Can you take this list to your GP? His office may be able to make referrals for you (though I'm stymied at why your psychiatrist won't)

Some Pdocs have waiting lists. If that's the case in your area, then it would be a good thing to start looking now.
My T and I are terminating in April. I've also started browsing for new Ts.
