So wondering how many of you talk politics with T? do you agree,/disagree with your T. ? It has come up as an example alot, having a narcissitic mom.. and ex. My T is kind of animated and funny when he gets going on this.. but is also sensitive to keeping on tract.
Thanks for this!

No. I don't talk politics with anyone. I don't find politics interesting and would not want to spend my money listening to the therapist talk about it

I don't talk politics with my T. It's my own personal business and not something I need to discuss.

No never, I have no opinion or desire to discuss politics so it would be a waste of my time and money.

We have been talking about it quite a lot because this election session has hit some huge triggers for emotional flashbacks for me, and I have been having panic attacks and sobbing attacks during the news.

No. That isn't why I ever went to therapy so it wouldn't be relevant in my sessions.

I love talking about politics. In fact that's what I studied in university. But I talk politics with friends, certainly not with my therapist. I mean, it doesn't come up for one and also I would be afraid to find out that she doesn't share my political views. Like, what if she actually votes for extreme right wing parties? That would be awful to find out. I think it's unlikely but you never know. So I'd rather not know.

We do. We're on the same side so it's cool. If things go the wrong way, i might have to talk him down off the ledge. Everything we talk about can be brought back to the personal.

Not much, but I mentioned my distaste at brexit, and he quietly agreed without adding very much.

Yes, we talk politics. I was fortunate to find a therapist who shares similar non-mainstream views and who values the role of citizen advocacy and looking at the larger context of personal psychology. It comes up in therapy in a number of ways due to my work life as well as personal acquaintances who are politically active as well.

Last session we mentioned politics briefly, and I found out she agrees with me on disliking Trump.

We touch on it in the same way that I mention other side issues that have some relationship to things I need to discuss. It's not a major theme, but we don't have any reason to avoid it either.

I wouldn't and haven't. Politics are boring and irrelevant to me. I wouldn't waste my time.

I've talked about it briefly with my therapist and nutritionist, enough to know we have similar views.

We haven't talked about politics but we did have a discussion after Brexit and seeing the problems voting one way or the other ( or even NOT voting ) caused to long term friendships and relationships.

No never have. I don't like talking about politics that much even though I do vote. It is not my favorite subject.

OMG. One of the VERY few topics I've had to straight out ban my T from talking about.
She's a pretty rabid liberal, not shy to share and could waste HUGE chunks of my time if I allowed it.

I just told her flat out. Once in a while, especially this year, she'll forget.
I usually just hVe to smirk at her and she gets the idea and reins herself in.
Thanks for this!

Yes, and I love it! We don't always agree, but we can still enjoy talking about the politics and the issues. Usually we limit the time to 10 minutes or so. Once or twice it's been more. Sometimes she wonders if I'm avoiding talking about something when I start the session with politics. Maybe. I just know I like it and we do share some laughs

It comes up briefly usually as a joke. Whether it is Kashi, sparky or long term t it is hard to tell which one hates trump the most. They all know I am liberal and so feel comfortable complaining. Sparky's Twitter feeds are two thirds rants against trump
