I bawl almost every session. My therapist hasn't ever cried. I kind of wish she would shed a tear. I wanted to get a hug from her last session at the end but I was too afraid to ask.

I tried to imagine it and immediately felt like punching him in the face.

One of mine did twice once because she was proud of me for doing a homework assignment and amazed and stunned by how much work I put into it and once over something else I don't remember. I wanted to fix it for her. None of the other therapists I have had over the years have shed tears over something I have said or done.

I have never had a therapist cry in session. I'm quite sure I would be extremely touched if one did.

I don't cry myself - I can't imagine any reason for a therapist to cry over my stuff. I pay them to stay back - I don't want to deal with their emoting all over the place.

My therapist has cried, when I was talking about some very sad stuff. It seemed very normal to me, like we were on the same page and he understood how sad my experience had been.

Yes my t has cried twice in session, both times were about her when she was telling me her own issues. I freaked out after the first time and we had a rupture because it blurred the boundaries between us.

Mine has cried a few times. She was really there with me and felt my pain, she has a knack for empathising with clients.

My T has teared up a few times, which I found to be rather touching, because it shows she really cares. I think marriage counselor may have wiped away a tear or two on a couple occasions, but it's possible his eyes were just bothering him. If either of them was really crying, like tears streaming down their face, it might be a bit weird for me. Because then I'd want to comfort them, too. And would feel bad for upsetting them.

None of my therapists cried during session but I never did either. I think my former T teared up a bit once when we were talking about his old therapist who passed away a few months prior. Don't think I would have felt very comfortable crying with him, we never had a very good connection. With current T I probably would but I just have not had particularly sad things to discuss during our time and it hasn't been a period of depression for me either.

Happened the same to me with my ex therapist and with a policeman.

I've never seen a T of mine cry or tear up. I would feel awkward if they did.

You know, I don't recall any of the numerous therapists I've been to ever tearing up when I cried. Not that I ever expected them to. They would show sympathy, or empathy, though.

My T never cried during sessions, not even our last few sessions. When she told me she was quitting I bawled my eyes out and she said that the reason she wasn't crying was because she had known for a while. 😒 I'm starting to think she was just a *****.

T1 has teared up when telling me that one of his family members had died. And he has had 4 deaths since I started seeing him. I am ok with that, it is actually helpful to me to see genuine emotion and staying present because I am not very good at that. Ex t also teared up when telling me about his long dead parent. Tha t was also in the context of teaching me about emotions. Pdoc cried once in a support group we both attended as participants while telling about a patient who had suicided. I remembered that when I would think about nobody caring if I died. Because he obviously would.
Thanks for this!
