Do you see a therapist you pay on your or, or is it the insurance, or is it the public health system?

I didn't respond to the poll as I see a private therapist but my therapy is funded by the government. (In my country the government funds therapy that is needed as a result of childhood trauma.) Her sessions normally cost $155. I get 36 sessions for free.

Trying to get decent long term therapy from the NHS is fraught with difficulties and headaches so I pay all out of pocket for a private T. More choice, more control. I have finally reached a stage in my life where I am both ready mentally and can financially afford to undertake this.

I didn't know governament could cover therapy, I am sorry for not adding that possibility, but I guess it would be similar than being convered by an insurance so you can vote that option.

I have insurance that covers my therapy, but the insurance is mandatory and the government pays part of my insurance premium.

I have insurance through my job, but my t doesn't accept insurance, so I pay out of pocket. I could submit receipts and be reimbursed a percentage of what I pay her if I ever meet my deductible, but said deductible is so high that even if I went once a week I wouldn't meet it. Besides we do some non-traditional stuff as part of my therapy (shamanic/energy work) which aren't covered anyway so I just do what I have to and pay out of pocket. Overtime at work whenever available and working my butt off in general to ensure I make bonus every quarter are a couple of the things I do to be able to afford it. It isn't easy but I feel like it's worth it.

I have insurance and pay a $25 co-pay. Prior to this T I had a very long term private T that didn't take insurance who offered me a reduced rate of $75 per hour. I only saw her once a month though and see this T, every other week. My long term T retired which is why I have the new T.

My situation is also not entirely covered - my T has a private practice which is funded by the county/public health care system, so I only pay the same as we pay for regular or specialist health care, a low fee four times every year and then I've paid the maximum amount and most health care including my T visits is free for the next 12 months. (I ticked "public health" above.) I am very lucky because there are not that many Ts who are part of the health care system, particularly not Ts in private practice who can offer an unlimited number of sessions. I used to have to pay out of pocket, with my previous T, and have noticed that when my therapy is paid for by tax payers' money it motivates me to work a lot harder in therapy.

I pay out of pocket. Health insurance for psychotherapy is a joke in this country. Inconvenient for both therapist and client.

Because of how much therapy/medication/psychiatrist I need, we ALWAYS have insurance. My husband went back to school to get a new job partly so we'd have enough money for my health costs.

I currently have a private-practice therapist, but I've used community services therapists also (either funded by grants, government funding, or school programs)

My therapist is not a participating provider so I pay out of pocket but at the end of the month she provides me with a receipt and I fax to my insurance which covers 70%.

Medicaid severely limits the amount of sessions an adult can have in a year. Instead of fighting them for more sessions/long-term therapy, I decided to pay out-of-pocket. It's just easier and thankfully, my fiance can afford it because I can't.

I see an out-of-network therapist in private practice in the US, pay out of pocket and get some of the cost reimbursed by insurance.
