My T keeps talking about things I don't want to. Once it goes silent it's a bit like she looks for something to talk about, usually my relationship or my alcohol/recreational drug use. Both of which I don't want to talk about too much purely because it doesn't have huge meaning to me if that makes sense. My answers are always the same every time. She keeps lecturing me on drugs every week and I know she's trying to help but it really doesn't help me. She's fantastic in lots of ways but I'm sick of visiting the same topics, it feels stale and isn't helpful.
Can anyone relate? I don't know how to ask her not to do this as maybe it's just her way of counselling? |

Can you bring up the topic? Do you work on what brought you to therapy in the first place?

I think the only way to stop her doing this is to tell her you don't want to talk about those things and don't find her pushing it helpful. Maybe don't wait until it happens next time but initiate the discussion.

I agree you should talk to her about it. Maybe she doesn't like silence, but she shouldn't even be the one choosing topics. It's YOUR session.

I can relate!
Sometimes my T speaks about unimportant (for me) things and i'm too shy to interrupt him. I agree, the only way to stop it is to tell your T. |

I hope you can tell your T it's not helpful. It's your therapy. Thinking of you.

I would tell her you don't wish to discuss those issues. Tell her the issue or topic you want to focus and need help with.
