Not very professional, yet soothing all the same.
I ran into a former psychiatrist of mine yesterday. She had lead my CBT a year ago. It was not a clinical setting. I was quite taken aback by how 'social' she made the situation and I was quite stunned. She threw her arms about me in a friendly hug and spoke as though we were long time friends. It just all seemed quite weird to me. |

I don't know, whenever I run into old T's or Pdocs, we always hug and spend a few minutes catching up.

I like my space so I would not enjoy XT's/Psychiatrists or friends running up and hugging me like that.

I wouldn't either. In my case, hugging was something we normally did at ends of sessions, so it wasn't unusual or unexpected, and it was mutual.

I would find the hug intrusive if an ex-T or doctor initiated it (I never had or wanted physical contact to be part of my therapy) but probably would not mind the chatting if I like the person.
