Anybody know where you can get free or low cost therapy? No insurance and finances are an issue. Thanks!

Depending on where you are there could be therapy centers. I had found a trauma center that did it on a sliding scale for $20 a week but you saw a student that was supervised for 1 year. Then depending on your circumstances they would try to get you in with a supervisor or permanent T. That ended up being more expensive but once my T got to know me he saw my struggle and offered to do therapy for much cheaper. But this is rare I hear. Try finding a local center for treatment that does a sliding scale.

Bluegal,

You might try your community's county mental health. Also, check to see if you are near University that includes a medical school. Many times they offer low cost or sliding scale counseling.

This is not for everyone, but some clergy also offer counseling.

Here's what I would do: I would make a list of top notch therapists (based on what I've either read or heard about them) and then call or email each one of them to see if they will provide pro bono services. If not, see what they have to say about a greatly reduced fee. I would think that if you explain your financial circumstances and emphasize how hard you are willing to work in therapy, you would have some luck with your situation. I wish you all the best. Keep us posted if you like. I would certainly be interested in hearing how this turns out for you.
