a. Take it as a compliment and tell them to hook you up with a good agent if they know one

b. Take serious offense

c. Stare back at them, in an attempt to telepathically convey WTF?

d. Other (please elaborate)

(Stay tuned for the next idea for a poll thread -- if your therapist compares the experience of therapy to "falling in [very monogamous] love")

First c, then b, then a (sarcastically).

Very monogamous love? Does that mean you don't see other therapists? Also, I thought therapy was like being in the womb according to her?
Thanks for this!

Had to reschedule my next appointment with T2 thanks to a work course on...building positive relationships through conversation...

(I don't know when in the evening the course ends so I don't know if I've time to dash to T2's office from the training venue)

Qm: I hope you don't have to wait much longer for the rescheduled appointment

I met breathing-body-something-T again. Forgot why I intended to dump her. She's awesome- that's how children must feel with play therapy. She forgot the time though, so we went 25minutes over. Her fault if she doesn't have a clock for clients, I'd have walked out of the door after exactly 60min

Yep, it's about seeing other therapists (she hedged around the "don't" part but yeah, that was basically it).

I think maybe this is what it means to make rapid progress in therapy -- I've progressed from the womb to (at least, I hope) early twenties in < 1 year

So part of my dream last night involved some party where there was a brown bear (as in, the wild animal, not a stuffed bear). And my dad was sitting across from it. The bear was smoking a cigarette. I was telling my dad he needed to pay attention, that the bear shouldn't be smoking, he should have stopped it.

I'm sure Freud would have enjoyed interpreting that one...

Called in sick today, first time since school got out for summer. The youngest is so excited to play with me but all I want to do is curl up in a ball with the heating pad on my stomach. Urgh, virus be gone.

Maybe next time you go you should ask her to go steady? Of course, then you would be back in high school.

Well, I am up and caught up on the couch. I slept a long time last night. Just got up about 30 minutes ago.

I have to leave fir CVS at 3:15, so I have a bit of time to chill. Need to do some of my masters class work, all I have left on this week's assignment is to write trainer notes for my presentation. I started this assignment early last week, since I knocked out last week's individual assignment so quickly.

After I finish my last 4 classes (counting this one), I am thinking about going on to get my doctorate. The school I am at now has a doctorate in educational technology that looks interesting. I asked my current adviser sime questions about it and he said he was only an adviser for master's degrees and connected me to an admissions rep for the doctoral program. Based on my program completion date, I could start my doctorate in January. The only thing that scares me about the doctoral program is that it is 3 and a half years long and requires annual residencies for a week. The only places to choose from for the week residency is Arlington, VA or Phoenix, AZ. Both are rather far from me and I am responsible for travel and hotel while I am there. Though VA would be a lot closer than AZ to FL. Both would cost me about the same when I did a price estimate based on proces now (which I know could change a lot by the time I was needing places for real). Hotels are cheaper in Phoenix than Arlington, but the plane ticket is more to Phoenix than Arlington. So really it just balances out. The plan part scares me too, but both are too far to drive to. I don't know if I would rent a car or use public transportation. I guess it depends on how much public transportation is available and the cost. That is still about a year away though, so I don't know why I am thinking about it now. I guess it is just good to think about these requirements before starting the degree program. But I have about 20 weeks left in my current program, so I still have a bit of time to decide.

So, among other things, I was a bit of an arse yesterday and told her that I thought she'd lived her life strictly on the straight and narrow and never flouted convention (she talked about liking Adrienne Rich's poetry and I was like "Really? You?").

She (understandably) got a bit pissy and so I asked her if she had ever gone against the norm etc. She immediately gave examples of dating people of color, including apparently one from my motherland despite her family being Republican and (by implication) not being very cool with her PoC love interests.

I know that must've taken some courage but I'll confess I felt a bit like I was watching a remake of "Guess who's coming to dinner" or something.
Thanks for this!

Ah. Well for uninsured and commercially insured it is typically cheaper.

ETA: I was basing it on my insurance.

That movie was like 50 years ago and she was doing this dating what, 20 years ago? And if her family was like either family in the movie (I gather she didn't say they actually disapproved, just implied it?), there were no serious consequences for her, except maybe some schmaltzy dialogue.
Thanks for this!

Yeah, exactly -- she's 45 and got into her (apparently, very blissfully monogamous) marriage at 23. So, I presume the "wild" stuff happened a little earlier.

I don't know what they actually said or if they laid down consequences etc -- she just said that they weren't okay with it. I didn't push (it really is none of my business, I know).

Arlington also has really good public transportation so you could stay further outside of the area and use the metro to get from your hotel to wherever the residency is for lower cost

Something else to consider is Amtrak (if you're close enough to a station). It's not sketchy and is typically less than a plane ticket.

I live close enough to DC that H and I usually go 3-4 times a year for events or the museums.

Update:

1. Finally got the sound to go away, hopefully it won't come back.
2. No one knows why I fell apart, so I have moved beyond it.
3. Still unsure about this, I know she saw me there and before she would have come over but she didn't, in session she didn't mention it but she did say I need to learn how to better ask for what I need - so was this connected?
4. ................... I'm sure we'll talk about this on Friday and I don't want to.
5. Nothing to report.
6. Life happens, she's pregnant, it's okay. (re: my sister forgetting sister night)
7. Choppers won in extra innings, so the night ended on a good note.

Yea, the rep said the Arlington campus was near the DC side. Just looked at Amtrack to get an estimate of prices, they look more than the plane tickets I was looking at, but the extra cost may be worth it, since I am not too keen on flying...I hate planes. Then again costs could change by the time I am needing to get tickets. Nearest Amtrck to me is in Orlando, about an hour away, not too bad.
