I know it well, lol! That's awesome that you're not afraid. They tell you to act confidently and I guess that's what I will do if I am that close and walking, but in general, I see them up ahead and cross the street to avoid them.

Don't get me started on all of the Canadian geese at the Reservoir!! OMG!

I love sychronicities although this probably doesn't qualify as one but it's just cool enough that I shall claim poetic license or something and say it does!! I literally just read in m psych textbook the groucho marx joke that una referenced not long ago: "“I once shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got in my pajamas I’ll never know.”
too funny that it came up in a psychology textbook, where one would not really expect it, shortly after I read a reference to it on a pscyhology-related forum. Perhaps there is something psychological about it that I do not yet recognize.... maybe that's why I'm still studying.... hah

back to my studies.

Hope all are having a good day.

I assume it's better to let my passion for what I want to do come through, right? Even if that means sharing stuff like, "I struggled with postpartum depression." And want to help other people with it.

Basically, the overarching idea for the "personal" part of the statement is that I had all kinds of support systems in place for pregnancy/motherhood (I'm specifically applying to maternal/child health programs), supportive H, family close by, good insurance, access to great doctors, etc. Yet I still struggled in many ways (physically, mentally, emotionally). I particularly want to find ways to reach and help women (platitude alert!) who maybe don't have access to those things for various reasons. To connect them with services and support. But then I fear that sounds too "middle-class white privilege-y..."
Yes to all that. If you share something personal, though, it should be clear you’ve thought about it, that going to grad school is not just an emotional reaction to it. But it’s clear you’ve done that!

Or...una is a lady of a certain age (I’m gonna get in trouble for that, amn’t I?) and it is entirely possible your textbook authors are of a similar age and therefore they all share a cultural frame of reference younger people do not.

Ahem. This is important valuable knowledge. I wonder what the age is of the people who write books about king phinneus of phoneus and what exactly that phanneus knowledge is used for?

Eta - boy i didnt even know where i was going with that joke! I "crack" myself up!

Eta2 but you are forgiven, since you used my favorite phrase, "amn't i". How did you know?

Eta3 - were you expecting to get in trouble for calling me a lady, or for saying i was of a certain age?

Eta4 - i had the jerry seinfeld is a friend of mine dream again last night. So freakin weird.

King Phineus was a prophet blinded by Zeus and plagued by the Harpies for blinding his sons and letting their stepmother kill them.

He was therefore a phoneus, a murderer in Greek.

And Phaneus was one of the names for Apollo, god of prophecy. Which gift Phineus had.

So that joke is a lot smarter than you thought. It’s all in the subtext, you know?

I love saying “amn’t I”! I have since I was two.

I left it deliberately ambiguous.

Now you’ll never know if I think you’re a lady...

Deliberate ambiguity - sounds like a description of my brain's natural functioning state.

Or a requirement for being a therapist.

“Must be able to come up with deliberately ambiguous statements and actions to drive the client nuts.”

"Must not be able to give a straight answer to a question. Options include asking why the client wants to know that, sharing an anecdote that is only sort of related to the question,* claiming the client incorrectly remembers what you said, or managing to change the topic entirely."

Um, then perhaps I'd better amend my statement as follows:

"Deliberate ambiguity - sounds like a description of my brain's natural functioning state in relation to itself."

This topic (apparent requirements for being a t) shows much potential for being a separate, tounge-in-cheek fun kinda thread....

Something like “If an alien came to earth and observed therapists in their natural environment, they would conclude that apparent requirements for the job were...”?

A certain squishy springiness to protect from being repeatedly thrown across the room

I tried again a few days ago and idk if he gained weight or I was just too tired, but I could barely make him budge

Yes, that was my go to through college. My friend taught it to me as something she called "amrit tonic." I never heard of it ever again but glad it is of use to other people too.

Hello all! Hugs to all who want or need. Those Blueberry Pie Oreos actually sound delicious.
