It's very hard to find a therapist. I've been at it since 1987. Basically if you come from an abusive background in my opinion your screwed because once you hit 18 years of age your all on your own.
You have to have:
Insurance which is the first thing most of the therapists ask. What kind of insurance do you have?
Some you can pay out of pocket, but here is my question what if your unemployed and don't have the money. And when your screwed up from your childhood issues? GOOD LUCK finding stable employment to help you put food on the table & keep a roof over your head let alone mental health treatment.
Anyone understand where I'm coming from?
SO, through much red tape I'm able to get counseling which will be paid by the veterans administration. I was in the military for a few years. I will be able to get the counseling out in the community since the Doctors I've seen over the years at the VA seemed to me burned out or not the most professional that I've encountered.
Getting this counseling was real difficult to get. As I've said, it required going through lots of red tape & waiting.
No wonder here in the U.S. the suicide rate is so high. See I'm alone, single, no friends (cause good ones who aren't into drugs or some kind of slimey lifestyle are real hard to find) and with only my elderly Mother still alive its a daily grind.
No one could ever understand. You all out there probably take alot of things for granted. Well when you have nothing you don't.

I don't think it's helpful to assume what all of us out here go through. I certainly have been in your position and was angry/resentful about it the same as you. I couldn't get therapy until I had a job that offered insurance, and then when I would be without work due to depression, I had nothing. It went like that for about 20 years and was horrible. I don't wish that on anyone. It's especially wrong that veterans don't have good mental and medical care.
