I've been at it a little over a year. I have to admit I like it.

I like the idea that I'm trying to find a way to be the best me I can be. To fully actualize my potential.

I've been reading Yalom and Gabriel Marcel and some Berdyaev.

There may be some bumps along the way. And sometimes it's difficult to deal with the fact that I'm ultimately responsible. But, it does feel good to make progress.

Yes , I'm very fond of existential therapy , my main T is existential. I very much enjoy the humour in it which is so important and perhaps is not always perceived as being there.

I think my t must use elements from that as part of her quite eclectic mix.

You'll have to check it out. There are several good videos about it on Youtube.
The wiki page is pretty good.
This article from Psychology Today.

What to Expect
Here's what you can expect from a course of therapy. Existential psychotherapies use a range of approaches, but major themes focus on your responsibility and freedom. Therapists help you find meaning in the face of anxiety by choosing to think and act responsibly and by confronting negative internal thoughts rather than external forces like societal pressures or luck. Fostering creativity, love, authenticity, and free will are common avenues that help move you toward transformation. Similarly, when treating addiction disorders, the existential therapist coaches you to face the anxiety that tempts you to abuse substances and guides you to take responsibility. The goal: You learn to make more willful decisions about how to live, drawing on creativity and love, instead of letting outside events determine your behavior
There is some overlap between humanistic and existential therapy.

For me, the main focus lately seems to be: Imagine what you would be like if everyone supported you, and you could do anything you liked. The thought being: people have an ideal self that they are striving to become.

But, I think I may be incorporating some humanistic psychology into my thoughts, as well as existential psychology.
