I've been having a difficult time going to sleep. My therapist said during our last appointment that I've been experiencing hallucinations since I keep hearing bizarre sounds and voices that keep me awake (since they're too loud to ignore). I also hear these things during the day, but the nighttime stuff is the hardest to cope with. Also, the flashes of light (which she said are also hallucinations) distract me as well.
Anyway, I left her a voicemail on Thursday around 10am asking what I could do to help me fall asleep. I politely asked her if she could call me back to give me advice since I'm desperate. Well, she never responded back even though she would normally get back to me in less than 1 day. Am I wrong for trying to contact her about this? I've never contacted my therapist outside of an appointment before besides cancelling/setting-up appointments. So this is the first time I've asked for advice outside of an appointment. I don't know if I'm supposed to wait until my next appointment to ask for advice on how to sleep. My psychiatrist doesn't respond either. |

Hugs...I don't think you're wrong to contact her about this at all. But with this being around the holidays, it's possible she's out of town (or even just "on vacation" at home) and not checking messages as much. I hope you hear back from her soon. When do you see her again? If you haven't heard by your next appointment, I'd definitely bring it up with her.
Hope you're able to get some sleep tonight... |

I agree with LT that it was fine to reach out to your T but that she is probably busy with the holidays and has her phone off. I know lots of people who simply unplug when they really want time off.
I thought that I might share what I do when I can't sleep...my T told me about a meditation app for your phone called, "Insight Timer" and I balked at it at first because I've never been one to meditate, but there is one on there which is just the sound of ocean waves and nothing else. When I can't sleep, I play that and 90% of the time I fall asleep. It's called, "Nature Sounds, The Ocean" by Owen Jenkins. Hope this helps! |

I don't know if it would help with your situation, but my wife has had some success with listening to a podcast called Sleep With Me. It's basically a guy who tells long, rambling stories to help put you to sleep. I'm hope your T gets back to you and/or you find something that helps soon!
