Hi Guy`s ,

With a storm blowing in tomorrow I was offered a 6:30 tonight , however where I was the last client I thought it best to cancel this week and just go at my regular time next week.

I was being thoughtful of my T`s personal workload , versus my actual need for a visit this week.

It was an on the phone thought to postpone all together for both our sakes.

Was I thoughtful or just thinking of myself not wanting a 6:30pm app. today ?

I always do this , I try to put myself in someone else`s shoes , did I do the right thing or will my T be disappointed that I canceled , I have never canceled .

I always do this , now I need an app. just to get over canceling and app. !! LOL

Thanks and take care , another storm in the NE area

Later

Therapy is for one's own self. I see no reason to be concerned about the therapist. It does not matter why you canceled. You gave plenty of notice. I don't see it as being thoughtful of or a bother to the therapist either way.

I don't see much point in being thoughtful of therapist's imaginary needs. I would assume that they are able to take care of themselves.

Regarding storms and stuff like that, where I live, the winter with snow could last for months - no one really cancels anything because of that. Cars drive, planes fly, the life continues as normal, even if it is -20C. Or perhaps everything is a little delayed when there is a sudden snow (it's surprising that it always comes as a surprise though, considering that the snow comes every year).

PS: If I was to tell my mechanic I was going to gas up on Thursday and failed to let him know and showed up on Friday instead , well you guessed it , I would be stressing about that. LOL

It's hard to know whether your T would have preferred you to cancel or not; and probably they will never tell you (at least a good one would not). I think in situations like that you make the best decision for your peace of mind and figure that the T will be ok either way.

My T and I discussed winter cancellations a long time ago. We agreed that if there was already 6 or more inches of snow on the ground, OR predicted, we would cancel. But I still try to connect with her (via phone, usually) to make sure.

There's ice on the road here in Houston and schools are closed. I was also told not to come into work, I work in a school district.
