I was recovered in a mental health hospital 1 month ago and they gave me meds there. I suspended them on my own, went to my first visit with my psychiatrist (it was mandatory), said I didnt want meds. We agreed to suspend them. The second visit (after 1 month) I talked about my symtoms, he said "you'll talk with the therapist" and didnt prescribe me meds. I'll see him in a few days. I'll mention him my symptoms again mostly self harm and suicidal thoughts, also very low self esteem, that come and go. I wonder, what's the point in seeing him every month if I don't have meds? Is this the practice? Maybe he wants to see if my mood changes and so on over time?

He's agreed to not give you medication because you said you didn't want medication. He's likely still seeing you because, if therapy alone isn't helping you, it may be a good idea to try medication again. If you stabilize on therapy alone, he will likely space your meetings out more (he'd do this after getting you stabilized on medication as well). I see my pdoc every 3 months now instead of every month.
Hope that's helpful |
