My new therapist doesn’t think he’s the right fit. He said my problems seem related to my autism. I personally think he’s the right fit. I’ve never had a therapist like him. I feel like I could make progress with him.

I’m just confused. I never really thought my current issuss could all be contributed to my autism.

I’m basically having socia issues. Not knowing whats appropriate to say or do in social situations, saying the wrong thing, and then getting distressed and anxious over it.

I am not really having any other problems at the time.

My mom thinks it might be the next step to go to a therapist who mainly specializes in autism. I just kind of liked this guy.

I just never thought it could all be traced back to my autism.

Does anyone have any suggestions or input?

I'd perhaps explain to him that even if your social issues are related to having an autism diagnosis, that you'd still like to attempt to work with him. After all, isn't it said that the therapeutic relationship is the most healing aspect to therapy?

I think that you also need to be accepting if he is insistent that he's not a good fit. Many people are hesitant to work with people who have an ASD. I see this at work a lot, and it makes me sad. You deserve good care from competent professionals. 😊
Thanks for this!

Thanks. I told him I thought he could help. I have another appointment set up. But he’s going to talk to some people.

This clinic has a center for autism. So I’m guessing they specialize in it and he knows what he is talking about.

He’s a young guy around my age. All my previous therapists have been women. And mostly older women. I remember when I switched therapists in 2015, I was transferred from a 58 year old women, to a 55 year old women. And I told my mom “this isn’t going to work.”

All these therapists have been the same. This new one is 100% different.

I told him if he switched me I didn’t want a women therapist period.
Thanks for this!
