I'm heartbroken to even be writing this but I'm moving to a different state away from a therapist that I actually feel comfortable talking to. There have only been probably two of these in my life and it's so hard to find. I'd hope to maybe have phone or Skype sessions at least for a month or two while I find a new therapist in my new state. I haven't brought it up yet at all but I know I have to leave in August.

Just tell her as you have stated it here. I am sure it won't be a big deal. It might be harder for you to say than for her to hear. I am sure she will wish you well and if she can do Skype for a couple of months she will.

Hope your move goes smooth for you.

Can you print your post and give it to her to read? My now ex-t moved a few states away a year into my therapy, and we did phone sessions for over 2 years before she moved back here and I saw her in person again. Phone sessions worked really well for me. (I paid out of pocket so there was never an issue w insurance)

I hope your move goes well!

I went through this at the start of the year.. Or end of last year.. I'm not sure when it was. It was hard to bring up, but I think she somewhat knew it was coming. After a build up of anxiety, I just told her that I was likely to be leaving. I gave her a rough date. Actually, thinking about it now, I'm not sure she was prepared for it. She was really accepting of it, though thrown off a bit.

I was allowed and encouraged to keep contact by email (possibly due to the fact that I was leaving town to travel alone and had no real plan of direction...). But, over 6 months on, I still haven't found a new T. She's been trying to help which is great. But, I guess the thing that sucks about keeping contact, is that I don't feel that I really have closure with the 'end' of the therapeutic relationship. Like when I do get a new T, is that it? Do I abruptly stop contact?

It's a tricky situation to be in and I totally feel for you.
