Hi guys!
Does anyone here think that they were finally cured/healed via therapy? What's it like?

I know a few people. I suppose it depends on the presenting issues, back stories and support network and resilience which affects the outcomes.
Are you loosing hope? |

Not I. I hate to sound like a downer but I seem to have more luck with meds than therapy but therapy is still helpful.

I think some situations can’t be cured; they can be managed. I feel I’m at a managed stage of my illness thanks to my T. In theory, it feels good. I have a good working relationship with the T, and can identify and cope better. I don’t think I can be cured. So being managed is pretty darn ok.

I was cured of borderline personality disorder. Also, I have gotten much better with anxiety.

Exactly the opposite. I'm thinking that maybe I have reached the end of my therapy journey.

I don't know about "cured." I'm a work in progress, probably will always be until I die. But therapy has helped me progress, that's for sure.

Nope. I don't really believe in cured...maybe remission.

What means "cured" anyway. Becoming a semi-god or something? Or not having diagnostic labels measured with some arbitrary tests attached to you? Or feeling that you don't need therapy anymore?

Nope. But I don't think it's curative and I don't think I'm ill.

I would settle for, "at peace with my mother". And I think I may have got there.

I originally entered therapy to deal with a bereavement that had happened a year prior. After three months I was able to get to a place where I could start moving forward again, and that was down to therapy. So yes, I've been 'cured'.

I don't think "cure" is a useful way of looking at it for me. "Healed" past tense doesn't really work for me either, but "healing" could fit. I'm much happier and have much more insight into my life than before this round of therapy began, and while I don't think stopping any time soon would be a good idea, I think some of what I've already gained will be lasting in a substantial, meaningful way.

I don't think there's anything wrong with me that needs to be "cured". I have been helped by therapy. I've dealt with a lot of my childhood issues, repaired my relationship with my parents (as best as possible), started becoming more independent. It's growth; not cured. I think there's always room for growth.

I've improved a lot.
Can't remember where I saw this comparison but somebody compared therapy to exercise, and that makes a lot of sense to me. Exercise isn't a cure for a disease but a way to get healthier, and I see therapy as similar. Not a "cure" but a way to feel better in my mind. |
