I saw a new T last night for the first time. I thought she was a little quirky but she seems warm and nice and her office--though a little small was cozy--had lots of stuff to look at on the walls so I didn't feel like I just needed to stare at her. It was a pretty typical "intake" kind of appointment but she asked me about my symptoms which the T that I saw three times recently has yet to do. I think I surprised her some with the SH revelations but that's neither here nor there. At the end of the appointment she said she would like to work with me, to think about it, and if I want to work with her to give her a call. I talked to her about the T I've seen three times and how we aren't "clicking" and she said that happens sometimes and that if it happens with her and I there are more therapists there at the office that I can try out. She's older than I expected and older than I was looking for (my second T got sick and she's older so I was sort of looking for someone middle aged in a pathetic attempt to not end up losing a T like that again). She told me to think about my goals for the next five years and the next ten years. I've never been good at looking into the future, it's like I have a mind block. I felt mostly good after the session with her. I felt kind of warm and accepted. It helped me know that I am making the right decision to terminate with the other T that I've seen three times because I've yet to feel accepted or anything close to warm. Mostly I just feel scared of that T. So today I feel a little hope. I hope I can hang onto this feeling.

Sounds like she was a good match.
I like the sound of her because she is putting your needs first.
I hope it works out if you decide to see her, maybe the age thing won’t be as important when you have established a good working alliance with her.
Could you see yourself working with her?

It sounds like a good first session. How old is she? If it were me, I'd probably think it was worth a second session, but I might ask her if she was considering retirement.

I hate to burst your bubble, but I'd just like to remind you that middle-aged and younger therapists can get sick, too.

Yes, I think I could see myself working with her. She seems empathetic.
Thanks for this!

That's a good question to consider, thanks!
