I choose to be happy today, my 59th birthday. We found Betty (one of our cats) yesterday, safe and sound.
Has your T ever wished you a Happy Birthday? If they did, was it in response to you telling them it was your birthday, or was it spontaneous? |

No. I doubt either of them knew when it was. I had no reason for a therapist to acknowledge the date. I don't really consider my birthday to be a big deal.

Mine knew I’d be celebrating my birthday on a weekend, our session was early in the week, and she said something weird. As I was leaving, she said she wouldn’t wish me a happy birthday because wishing it early is “bad luck”. Okay...

Twice, after she noticed my cards. I appreciated the kindness.

No, my former T never wished me a Happy Birthday. I doubt she even really knew when it was. Sure it was on the intake forms, but how often does a T look at that after therapy is underway.

Well this is true in my culture, it would be considered weird to wish someone happy birthday in advance. If you are not close with the person and don't attend the party or don't message on social media, you wait after that person's b-day and wish in retrospective. Sometimes it's even said that a person may die if the birthday is celebrated in advance. So to me, you Ts comment sounds acceptable.

I've seen her on my last two birthdays. Both times something birthday-related came up either in that session or the one before, so she wished me a happy birthday on the actual day. Low-key but kinda nice.

Had a session on my bday, got a "Happy Birthday" as I left, simple but meant more to me than anyone else who said it that day

One of my child parts is planning on aging a year or so soon. T has been encouraging this so it will be easier for to work through her traumas. T wished her a Happy upcoming Birthday last session.
I can't remember if he ever wished me a happy birthday. |

I've been seeing my T for two years, so two birthdays. The first time I had session on my birthday, which he did not acknowledge. The second time it was on the weekend, and when we saw the next time he said something like 'oh, it was your birthday some days ago, right? Congrats.' I didn't mention it before or after on either of the two days.

Yes. Birthdays are a big deal for my therapist and I. We have birthday parties for each other with presents and cake.

My T only remembers my birthday if I tell her. Then she'll wish me a happy birthday.
