If I dont have alters why would my therapist say to go in to my protective part or part that doesn't want to tell.

We all have different parts to us, it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with alters.

Google IFS therapy, it will explain it more. My therapist doesn’t profess to using this method but we certainly end up talking about parts a lot which usually leave me wondering if I’m completely crazy or not! Turns out it’s just the theroy of IFS therapy.

I think it doesn't have to mean you've got DID. It's pretty normal for people to have different tendencies and mixed feelings about things. So in this case a "part" is just a theoretical concept, something to work with in therapy. It doesn't mean you actually have another personality inside you. It can be a little weird or awkward at first to think in these terms. It was for me, I absolutely hated the idea of inner child etc but after some time it began making sense and now we're working with these concepts a lot.
