I'm finishing with my existing therapist by mutual consent and have arranged an initial session with a new one. It turns out they work in the same place and I'm pretty sure know each other. Is this an issue? And is it advisable to make them aware of the situation or not?

I don't see why this would be an issue. They are not allowed to discuss you without your consent and so they won't. It's up to you if you want to let the new therapist know that your former therapist works in the same place. It really doesn't matter if they know it or not.

I think I would try to find a different T. Will you want to discuss things from your therapy with the first T with the second? If you did want to, that could be difficult. I imagine that T's who work in the same place might occaisionally off load to each other about a client, so your first T could have already talked about you to the second T. I think that our feelings about a therapist after we have stopped seeing them are rarely straightforward. And if you did encounter your first T again it might not be straightforward.

I don't think it's an issue. If it is an agency they may have access to your file and if you don't want that then I suggest seeing someone else. But why not bring it up with the new T and find out what the new T has to say.
