Analysis might be defined as an attempt to become more conscious through a continuous act of self-criticism: a slow labour of deconstruction on all the ingenuous attitudes of omnipotence that we carry within ourselves.~Luigi Zoja

Deconstruction of all the ingenuous would be a good outcome…

Undo all the malware I was programmed with by my toxic family system, and by all the subsequent social systems and pressures I thought I had to conform to, to be a certain "somebody." Who am I after I discover and remove all those masks and take off all the survival armor, and put my weapons down?

Is that statement saying that analysis is a good thing? I have been self critical for many many years, I don't think it's been good for me.

I think luigi means like self-observation, to truly know one's self. The stuff after the colon is fantastic.

It DID say "a slow labour of deconstruction of... the omnipotence we carry within ourselves." It ALL starts with toilet training. And ends with being regular.
Thanks for this!

I think the difference is, not doing it adone in a loop type of way. But speaking about it with another. Having it taken outside of us and looked at. This has been my experience.
Thanks for this!

Fancy living our life not truly knowing.. This thread is about going through our own dark night. Eventually we come to our light. If we take the first dark step.

Omnipotence as I understand it in psychoanalysis (at least from Winnicott) is that it's something an infant experiences a sense of when they realise they can influence the world around them to get their needs met. e.g. "when I cry because I am hungry, I am fed". According to Winnicott this sense is an important part of healthy development and relates to the attunement between caregiver and child. Of course when we get older we lose the idea that yelling will magically produce what we want and need, but we retain a sense of agency, and feel secure in our environment.

I think I lived much of my life without knowing myself, mostly taking other people's words for granted-- or what or who people told me I was.

Then I woke up, gradually, a process, not clear really how it happened. But I have lived more clearly and more honestly since then.

And yes therapy had something to do with it, but not all.
