Last week my therapist told me for now we cannot meet because she is under investigation from the clinic.

Has anyone been in this situation before? I do not know why she is being investigated.

Ugh, I'm sorry. That would definitely make me uncomfortable and worried. Plus struggling with not being able to meet. I hope it turns out to be nothing and that you can resume seeing her soon. I thought she had stopped working for the clinic though?

She did stop working at the clinic at the end of August due to her boss demanding that she return to work. They refused to let her work from home. So now she has a new job plus her private practice. She found out from her old manager last week that she is under investigation. I hope it turns out to be nothing too but im worried about her.

Well, I can understand why you're worried. Do you have any idea what she's being investigated for?

Thank you for asking. I have not heard from my therapist since she told me that her old boss told her she was under investigation. I have no idea why or how long the investigation will go on. I am very worried about the whole thing.

I wish I could phone or text her, however if it involves me or any client of hers, maybe it's best if I just wait til she reaches out to me.

I'm sorry Taylor. I hope she reaches out soon. I honestly feel like she is a bit irresponsible leaving you hanging like this. Her being under investigation should not affect you, she ought to make sure of that.

I agree with you that she needs to reach out to me. It's not helping me by not knowing what is happening regarding my therapy. I know she would not hurt me or abandon me. It does feel this way.

I think she is being extra careful because I used to see her at the clinic until she went into private practice. Also she started a new job and with the investigation she is probably just being careful in how she is doing things.

I think though she needs to keep intouch with me and it would be nice to know how long it might be til I get to meet with her. Also im afraid she might not be able to any more.

I'm sorry you haven't heard from her. I think it would be OK to reach out to her soon because now it's been over a week, right? Even just something like, "Hi, I was wondering if you had any idea of when we'd be able to meet again."

I am not a stickler for rules. I don't mind that she is seeing you in spite of not being supposed to. But I do agree with the spirit of the core rules, stating that the patient comes first and that boundaries are put in place mainly to protect the patient (and of course some also to protect the therapist, so (s)he can do her/his job in peace, which in turn also benefits the patient).

I think she is very much breaking not just the rules, but also the spirit of these core rules, and she's been doing that for a while. I remember this rollercoaster of the two of you going up and down and then being stable for at least half a year now. It makes me concerned if she is even able to help you with all of this going on?

I agree with LT, you could reach out to her. I would do so on the weekend, to avoid a notification popping up on her phone at the wrong time (for example while she is sitting in a meeting discussing investigation results), but even if that were to happen, it would be her fault, because she has a responsibility towards you, and she is very much not fulfilling it.

Thank you for responding to me. I know you are so right and I think she has crossed some boundaries without thinking of the consequenses that would happen. I thought it would be okay for me to follow her not knowing what could go wrong.

I think this therapy relationship wont go far. If I was not involved and I have no clue what is going on she would of reached out to me right now to let me know when we could meet.

I will give her til the end of the week and hopefully she will have more to say about this. I think it's unfair to me to be told to wait. This has been very stressful and even though things worked out good for a few months it does not seem like my therapy with her is going to be stable.

I do hope im wrong, however today im feeling like it maybe time to move on and try to get another therapist.

I understand. I too am attached to my therapist and it would be difficult for me to leave him. However, I can't imagine him doing something like that to any of his patients, and perhaps least of all to me - not because I'm super special to him, but because of my issues he is paying special attention to being as consistent as possible to me. It's about what I need, not about what he wants, and I think this is amazing and while it is probably quite rare for a therapist to do this to this degree, I mention it because it is in such a stark contrast to what your therapist does that it highlights very much the extreme to which she is taking her disregard of your needs.

I think you are doing the right thing in setting yourself a deadline. When it comes, you still have all the options, but maybe it wouldn't hurt to look around for a new T. You don't have to tell her about it either, you don't have to burn that bridge, but it's good to have options and I do believe that you deserve better.

I did hear from her this afternoon. The investigation is not anything to do with me and her. She is almost in the clear and can get back to seeing clients again. I guess her union did not allow her to see any clients for a couple weeks.

I am so glad she explained things to me. Now that she is not working at the clinic and is done there. I don't think there will be any more issues like this.

Okay, then I hope things will calm down then, and she can fix whatever trust she broke and be a consistent and helpful T to you from here on out
