Welcome to the couch, old and new! A place to hang out - sometimes you get immediate feedback, sometimes you don't.
Shouting, "Cool Whip" tends to bring others out from between the cushions if you're feeling lonely. This is a chatty thread. All are welcome. We're kind of psychologically oriented, sometimes. We try to be supportive. At times we discuss what that means. It’s a place to plop down on the couch when you come home from work or wherever, or wake up in the middle of the night, or check in at lunch, rant a bit or not, and be among friends. We advise you not to drink or drug and text your therapist ("T") - we speak from experience. A cinnamon roll is a sweet roll served commonly in Northern Europe and North America. Its main ingredients are flour, cinnamon, sugar, and butter, which provide a robust and sweet flavor. Sometimes the thread moves fast and you might get overlooked; sometimes it moves slowly and all you hear are crickets. Sometimes you get hugged or thanked pages later. So if it's a bigger question, you might want to start a new thread. Grab a cushion, a spot on the floor, or an armchair in the corner and make yourselves comfy! __________________ Last edited by Lemoncake; May 13, 2019 at 10:57 AM.. Reason: title change |

I am feeling so happy today I can't stop smiling. I am feeling so much better again today, and I love the way my dreams went last night, the 2nd one came through for me in stunning clarity.

Speaking of chickpeas, this chickpea quinoa spinach salad thingy is my new favorite thing. It helps that I get the fancy Bulgarian feta from the cheese department. And maybe I add a little more than 2 oz... @WarmFuzzySocks, maybe something you would like too?
Happy birthday, Lost! Hope it's a good one! |

Hi everyone. I successfully managed my parents absence this weekend. It got hard but I did it. I feel good about that. The desire to SH is still pretty strong. It didn't help that someone at work this morning pointed out some accidental injuries I have to my hand and we had to have this in depth conversation about how I got them. I'm getting a headache and not really wanting to be at work, but being a grown up and staying at work anyway. HUGS to anyone who wants one. Kit

Random thing I became emotional about in therapy today: my love of music. Started crying. Not sure what that was all about. Maybe partly his seeming uncertainty about what the purpose of playing song (on my phone) for him in session would be? But then he clarified that he wanted to make sure I knew what I wanted out of it. Like if I expected him to react a certain way, then if he didn’t, would I feel disappointed? He also wanted me to print lyrics of song to give him while he listens. And he wasn’t sure if I’d be staring at him while he listened, and I said I could close my eyes, and we joked about my standing in the corner. Need to debate about whether to share a song (or part of one) next session...

They don't like the tables turned, huh? They can stare at us all they want, but it gets weird all of a sudden when they think they're going to be stared at.

Yes! I sort of want to play music for him and just stare at him now... sometimes I want to point out the anxiety tells he’s showing (or maybe he’s just mirroring me?) like “you’re playing with your hands.” Or last session, with his wedding ring...

Please do! I thought it was odd that he asked you that. I don't particularly like being watched either, but I don't think it would occur to me to ask someone if they were going to stare at me while listening to music.

Boss told me today that I should write shorter code. Then wanted to talk to me about something I'd written. Told him I'd need to clean it up a bit first. Spent 20 minutes making it nice and short. He walks in, tells me it's not well readable like this and to change everything back to the original. Like, I can do either, but don't tell me I don't do something well and then tell me to do that right away -.-

Ack. I’m starting to feel nervous about seeing my parents. I haven’t been to my parents’ home for nearly two years now. And I’ve just told my therapist about some of the weirder aspects of our relationship so I’m feeling all raw and ashamed and simultaneously like I have betrayed my parents by telling him. Furthermore, I’m afraid of what will happen if I lose my grip on stability while I’m home with them. Ack.

I watch T all the time when he is looking at something symbolic I have handed him or I have said something. I have even warned him which anxious quirk he will demonstrate... he just laughs lovingly at me.

Yeah, I don't know what that was all about... I mean, I'm not expecting him to be like, "Wow, that song changed my life!" As I said to him, it's part of my inner world that I want to share with him. It's a different way of being vulnerable. I wish he could just be like "OK, let's give it a try." I know he's trying to be careful and is wary of letting me down, but...I mean, part of it is just wanting to give him a sort of point of reference when I mention a particular band. It's not like I'm talking about the Beatles or the Stones. Here is what The National sound like. If it was art or, say, a poem, I could just show him. And yeah, I could give him a lyric sheet. But it's not the same as hearing it all together. Even if he gets nothing out of it, I want to be like, "Here, this means something to me." I imagine he doesn't fully understand other stuff I talk about either. |
