My PDOC told me at our last session, that she wanted me to ask HER some questions ( been going there for about two years once a month
![]() I got confused as I didnīt know if she wanted me to ask her som personal questions or about my mental health. She seem rather annoyed me. Is it " normal " to expect that from the client ? We donīt do therapy but she checks on my meds and gives me support. Seems silly to even make this thread, but I never had that reaciton from a t or pdoc before. |

I've always asked my pdoc a bunch of questions, so I'm not sure how they normally respond to no questions.
Without any more context than is included here, I would guess she meant about treatment/meds, especially if that's the primary focus of your appointments and you're making adjustments to them. You could always do the very vague open ended thing, like "if you were in my position what questions would you have? What else would you want to know?" The questions I ask my pdoc are more like how long does this med take to work, is it likely to make me sleepy, etc |

My Pdoc is almost like a big sister to me. We always talk about our kids who are about the same ages and we both collect semi precious gem stones and crazy rocks. Ive met her husband and one of her kids... but we are both a special kind of crazy...she also tend to check in on how therapy is going because I have had a lot of trouble finding a good T.

example through out the week I keep a journal, any time I have a question about anything.... my life, the last session, my meds my thought, wondering where she got this or that, wonderings about if she has ever experienced what I go through.... all kinds of questions. I see my psychiatrist for my psych medications... I see him once a month, between sessions I write down any problems, symptoms and questions about my meds and my disorder that I would like to talk about with them. I see my primary medical doctor for medical issues... I go in to my appointments with them with a list of questions, what problems I am there to have the doctor check out. I see specialists for my Multiple Sclerosis and have a team treatment plan that includes endocrinologists, neurologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, dietician, speech language pathologist, urologist, case manager, social worker..... with each one of them I must keep a journal about any questions and problems that need to be addressed there with them and yes sometimes I do get a bit personal with my questions ![]() my point is its standard for a treatment provider to invite you to ask any questions you may have no matter what they are. my suggestion between now and your next session start a journal about your therapy sessions, conversations, and any questions that pop up that you wonder about or would like answers to. then take the journal to your treatment provider and let them read it. |

It's possible she's just trying to get you more engaged in your treatment by getting you to think about how your treatment has gone up till this point. She may wonder do you have any feelings about where your treatment is going. I doubt she's asking you to ask her how many children she has or where she's going on vacation next.

if you are .... 1. stable 2. on meds for 20 years so obviously the meds are working since you are stable 3. dont want to work on your past why are you in therapy? Another question you may want to ask... what is keeping you from getting a job instead of going to therapy since theres nothing in therapy you want to do? another question you may want to ask.... if you are stable why are you in therapy? people dont stay in therapy for the heck of it. its too expensive and insurance plans usually start asking a whole bunch of question to the treatment provider as to why they are still seeing someone, some insurance companies have a max number of appointments per year someone can be in therapy....... most are in therapy because theres something that they......want.........to work on to make their life better. if you truly believe this is it for you, that you can handle being stable and on meds for life and not work on any thing, maybe the main question to ask is why are you still in therapy. my point is maybe you can look at your posts here on psych central and find something you want to question and work on. |
