Will see someone with my condition- schizoaffective disorder.

It is just kind of sad that there are so few therapists out there who are trained or willing to treat certain conditions.

Its like EVERY therapist is willing to treat depression and anxiety. Every therapist is willing to treat temporary issues like stress and similar. Most therapists will see PTSD and panic disorders. Lots of therapists will see people who self harm. Lots of therapists will treat things like low self esteem and problems with school and work.

But when you get to things like bipolar- well. The net amount of therapists drops quite a bit. When you get to things like psychotic disorders/schizophrenia specturm stuff- its almost nil.

Now. I get it. Its better not to list a condition you genuinely dont feel comfortablw working with. But it is frustrating because there are so few people who ARE comfortable working with it that it can be challenging to find someone competent.

And it really doesnt help with stigma.

I just wish there was more done to prepare therapists to deal with these conditions.

Thats all. I guess this is more a venting session than anything else. Thank you fof listeninf

I think clinics HAVE to treat "seriously" mentally ill. I know I've never actually been turned away. I've had ****** therapists that couldn't help. I've been transferred for higher level of care (which was BS) but never turned away. I think most therapists are not properly trained in how to treat psychotic issues. They very quickly talk about the hospital when that's not necessary always.
