I have had an online counselor for about 7 months now. I really like her and I am proud of myself for sticking with some form of counseling for this long but I don’t really know if it’s helping me. Maybe I am more introspective now than I have been before, I think more about how my behavior might be interpreted by others, but I am not sure if my thought process is really changing. I also don’t think my behavior has changed much, I still self sabotage like crazy and engage in some risky behaviors. I really wish I could find a face to face therapist.

Meeting face-to-face is crucial for me. My therapist has suggested Skype/ Zoom for sessions when I’m out of the country, but it’s very awkward and hard to make a connection.
Online therapy doesn’t have the intimacy that in-person counseling affords. I really hope you find someone to see in- person. Have you tried Psychology Today? (If you’re in the US) |

I think so. But Ive seen lots of different therapists with different levels of skill and some have helped more than others

No - it did not work for me at all. It was not unuseful as a place to vent about my person's illness and death, but it was completely useless and even harmful in some ways for the actual reason I had hired a therapist in the first place. In all I regret trying it.

Therapy pretty much saved my life. So yes, it really did work for me.

It's helped me some areas. Some not. But where it hasn't helped, it doesn't matter because I can tolerate those areas now.
It's not magic. I was missing something vital inside of me. For me it helped me grow what was missing. Last edited by Anonymous48807; Aug 25, 2019 at 10:58 PM. |

Therapy has definitely helped me, both in the past and currently. I still need it in order to achieve the things I want to achieve for myself.
