This evening as I was in the waiting room T walked in from the outside. After we sat down she said her previous client wanted to go for a walk. I told her For years I have thought it could be great to do for a walk during therapy as it seems like it could be less intense. She told me she is always up for a walk. So we went for a nice brisk walk. It was a little strange because every time we got to an intersection ((it happened a lot) she asked which way I wanted to go. If I could see there were a lot of people on a particular area we avoided that way.

As far as the actual therapy, we discussed a couple of issues we brought up but we didnt go very deep at all. I wish she would have helped me explore a little bit more but I think it would have been too much. At the end of the walk I told her it was nice but I couldn't imagine expressing emotions in public.

We spent a lot of time discussing non therapy things like our homes, why she moved to this state, the value if girlfriends and girl time, as well as the beauty of the city we were in.

It was nice and relaxing which at some points will be beneficial, but also I could use it as a way of avoidance.

I'm glad you had the experience and you can see what works and what doesn't work for you. It's cool your T was open to the idea. HUGS Kit

thank you. I thought about asking many times over the summer but feared she would say no. With my schedule on appoinment nights I get up early for work, leave early to drive to my T appointment, then drive home for a church meeting that lasts until around 9:30 pm. I feel so couped up.

I am thankful she mentioned going for a walk with her previous client. I would have never asked. I wonder if it was her way of saying hey let's go for a walk without putting me on the spot of feeling I had to say yes.

Ooh! That's so cool that you got to try it.

My potential new T says, on his website, that he often goes on walks with his clients. I'm sort of torn - I bet that if you have something you're upset about, the physical aspect helps work out some of that energy. But, I also value my privacy - a lot - and don't think I'd be comfortable having T-conversations in public.

But it's really neat that you got to try it out and see for yourself how it works!
