I was at a workshop recently about resilience . I never in my wildest s dreams expected my t to be there too.
It was very awkward because it was just starting and t was late, the only seat that was left was one directly opposite my seat. She sat down and looked directly at me and waved. I waved back but I felt very vulnerable and wanted to leave the room. During the workshop we were asked to close our eyes and put our arms around ourselves- like hug ourselves, etc... well every time I opened my eyes t was looking at me. I looked back and she didn’t look away. It was very strange. My friend was also at this workshop and said she saw t staring at me all the time. I just found the whole experience strange and at lunchtime she came over to talk to me which was nice. I also laughed because we were asked at the check in, to describe how we felt using weather and t said she was windy ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hi weaverbeaver,
I'm sorry you found the experience weird, but it seems from an outside perspective as though it was also pretty positive. It must be strange running into T out of context. Perhaps you could talk a bit about it in your next appointment?

We talked a little bit about how we found it but didn’t really go into too much detail.

I would find that really weird as well. I worry sometimes when I've gone along to an interest or hobby group that my T will be there. One time a T I only saw for one session was at a class, but I don't think she remembered me as it was some years later. Still felt weird though. If my current T was at anything I think I'd have to walk out, it would feel really awful to me.
It sounds to me like your T handled it like a pro - she didn't ignore you or act uncomfortable with you both being there. And good that she's open to discussing your feelings about it. |

I can see why it could be awkward.
Ironically this is something I have thought about lately with EMDR T. T at my first session told me how we she would handle it if we ran into each other outside of the office. The last couple of years seeing her it happened a few times. We introduced each other as a friend. We both knew the actual nature of our relationship but it made things easier. Since T and I live over an hour apart I never t hi ou ch T it would happen. Recently a couple of things happened that made me realize it really could happen. Yesterday hubby and I went for a hike at a local mountain. Come to fund out their was a wellness hike going on for employees and their families from a local college also going on. Emdr Ts' husband works there. They are huge into hiking. I wondered if we would run into each other on the trails. Also, at a recent retreat I had a very close bond with a woman who happens to attend the same church T does. The person has asked me to come to a couple of functions at her church.....so at my next appointment I will be bringing up the suubject.
