Sorry, lemon, I don't like carrot cake. Something is clearly wrong with me.

I actually find in cooking, I get better results if I don't measure but kind of eyeball it. In baking I measure quite strictly.

Do you measure by weight? If so, do you actually get better results vs. measuring by volume?

I know - you learn the measurements by feel. Also - I have always found the difference between home cooking and restaurant/chef cooking to be the extra butter/oil/salt and sometimes shallots they use.

I get better results from baking if I weigh the ingredients. I don't bake much because it (to me) is more precise than cooking other ways, but I do like to make bread.

I weigh the ingredients when making bread. I should try it with other baked goods.

So last fall I started making "skeletal outlines" for all my lectures. Essentially a fill-in-the-blank lecture outline, because most students have no idea how to take notes or what's important about the information I'm giving them.

And the students love them. But they are a huge pain to make up.

I'm under the impression that it's more important to be exacting in measurements with baking, less so with cooking (with a few exceptions, I'm sure). Hence, I'm better at cooking.

I wish there was a job where my extraordinary ability to measure things by looking at them was used. I can look at a pile of lour and say how many cups there are are block of land yep that 2.6 acres that piece of wood is 27 inches. It only works in imperial though.

Due to insurance changes through my work, I can only see my T every other week, and it is absolutely making me feel terrible. I don't know how I will deal.

I don't weigh anything when I bake. I'm too impatient. Mostly stuff turns out okay. But I bake a lot and mess with the recipes anyway by adding whatever I have in the fridge that needs to be used up (tomato soup, applesauce, squash, yogurt) so weighing the flour is the least of my ingredient worries. I can usually tell by look or feel whether it's going to work out all right.

Once in a while I fail spectacularly. Oh well.

Still not divorced, by the way.

Which is okay, since it got put on hold while the kids' dad goes through his cancer treatments. His first treatment went well, the second not so well. He was pretty sick over the weekend. Only one more left. It is challenging for both of us to find the line of care--how much do I offer, how much does he accept, how can I encourage and care for him and still maintain good boundaries? The whole thing pretty much sucks all around.

I made chicken soup for dinner tonight, put some in a Mason jar, and am sending it his way tomorrow with one of the boys.

Next session is in 5 days time. T didn't reply to my 2 emails. I just emailed again, asking if we could arrange a phone call.

My parents are giving mixed signals again, which is triggering. They're such opportunists. They don't want me to be happy with my partner but still want to make use of me and him financially and practically. I'm still struggling with feelings about the abuse my sister corroborated.

Also I had to comfort one of the friends I turned to for support over the suicide. She made it all about her feelings because she's highly sensitive. I regret telling her anything because I have my hands full trying to support my partner who is grieving. My best friend was really helpful but they are also exhausted and busy and struggling.

How long does T normally take? can you call her?
Hugs. Na, these friends know about mental illness and trauma but one of them calls *every little thing* traumatising, though she's definitely been traumatised by some stuff. And every sad day "depression", if you get what I mean. She's sympathetic but can be a tad tone deaf. Like waxing lyrical about her loving and supportive family when I literally asked for support around abuse being corroborated.

I sent T a third email asking if we can arrange a phone call. Can't call her directly, and can't call the new clinic, so I'll have to see if she gets my third email.

Hugs. That's awful. Hugs if wanted. Any chance for phone calls inbetween sessions? That's what T offered me when I could only see her once a month.

OK, @Lemoncake , @LonesomeTonight , T replied to my 3rd email. She is busy but will try to squeeze in a phone call tomorrow afternoon.

In the meantime I'll keep trying to cope and not SH. I just keep swinging between numbness and tears.

WFS, I hadn't been following the conversation and thought you meant that when you bake you slip the surly the bonds of earth and start floating to the ceiling

Today's the first day of a two-week period where we study for board exams (which we don't actually take until the summer, but whatever). This might sound crazy, but it seems like it'll be kind of relaxing compared to patient care.

That doesn't sound crazy, Chihiro. When you're studying, you don't have someone's life literally in your hands.
