Welcome to the couch, old and new! A place to hang out - sometimes you get immediate feedback, sometimes you don't.
Shouting, "Cool Whip" tends to bring others out from between the cushions if you're feeling lonely. This is a chatty thread. All are welcome. We're kind of psychologically oriented, sometimes. We try to be supportive. At times we discuss what that means. It’s a place to plop down on the couch when you come home from work or wherever, or wake up in the middle of the night, or check in at lunch, rant a bit or not, and be among friends. We advise you not to drink or drug and text your therapist ("T") - we speak from experience. Sometimes the thread moves fast and you might get overlooked; sometimes it moves slowly and all you hear are crickets. Sometimes you get hugged or thanked pages later. So if it's a bigger question, you might want to start a new thread. Grab a cushion, a spot on the floor, or an armchair in the corner and make yourselves comfy. 210 is an abundant number, and I couldn't imagine a better way to ring in a New Year. __________________ 'Somewhere up above the great divide Where the sky is wide, and the clouds are few A man can see his way clear to the light 'You have all the grace you need for today, and today is all that matters.' - Steve Austin |

Hey Couchies, how can you tell if you are angry or if your feelings are hurt? I am feeling angry but I think it might be that my feelings are hurt. Just something someone said to me at work. I'm trying to shrug it off but it's like screaming at me in my head. I'm feeling angry but I'm also feeling unheard, not valued, not listened to, which is making me feel uncared about, unloved, etc. So I'm thinking maybe my feelings are actually hurt but the anger that I feel is hiding it? Better question....how can I stop feeling this way? I don't want to SH over it (which is what I immediately think of, of course). I'm thinking about calling a friend after work, or stopping by her house but IDK as it is New Years Eve and all. It's like I want to get something out of me somehow. I'm not explaining it well, but that is how it feels. HUGS Kit

Instead of trying to stop an emotion, I’ve learned to sit with them and feel them. Stopping an emotion is when I do something like sh or eat emotionally, and even then they have not been dealt with. It’s harder but better in the long run to sit with them and acknowledge them and let them pass that way. |

That's a tangle, Kit. I can't speak with any expertise, other than the fact that I know that feeling. I am still working on safe ways to externalise it.

Happy New Year's Eve couch. Apparently this year has made a tradition for our family...someone has been sick or hospitalized for many holidays. Tonight is my youngest with a 102+ fever. Thankfully H is going out driving all night long so I don't have to deal with him.

Hey Una we do actually have a fire season as a lot of our plants seeds cant germinate because they to have their out coatings burned off and the heat activates enzymes, but this much much worse than a normal fire season because we have had really dry weather for so long and councils and developers have destryed the natrualmabrriers that keep the fires limited nearly half of 2 states are still burning our volunteer firefighters are going without a break and need a rest and our Prime Minister wont give them any monetary relief as they have given up their jobs and fighting fulltime and then he pissed off to Hawaii for a holiday and cut it short because public opinion. Other Prime Ministers have rolled their sleeves up and dug people out in national disasters and he wont even give them a bit of money. A billionaire is giving a couple of million to the volunteers

My house is probably a public health hazard. I'm not doing well at all. Have been in bed ever since I got back to the place last Thursday.
It's really, really bad. I'm scared what could happen if anyone saw how I'm currently living, actually. __________________ Life is hard. Then you die. Then they throw dirt in your face. -David Gerrold |
