But to get that rate (third-class) you couldn't actually write on the card. What would be the point? You couldn't add a personal message.

ETA: I still send a few dozen Xmas cards a year and get a few less than that (a couple elderly relatives are too infirm to write back, but like getting them, so I keep sending them).

Regardless of the logic, it is painful to put something out in the world and not hear back. It's a big step to be able to open up to that. I'm sorry

the point was to save money - and the card could be re-used.

So it was like the Christmas card equivalent of the Eternal Fruitcake?

Yes. My parents didn't write personal messages on most of them - just signed it The Stopdog Family and on to the next one unless the recipient was a close friend or family member

We never sent a letter/card in return. Except for like baby showers, wedding gifts, etc. They might get a phone call in return for holiday cards. But my mom did send cards out to everyone she knows. Still does. The last time I sent Christmas cards out was 2 years ago. We had a professional take our pictures with our dogs.

It was before they invented the xmas family brag letter. There was nothing to brag about until the boomers started mobilizing upward

So i woulda been preschool when my dad put me to work, if the rates went up to 4 cents in aug 1955, i would have turned 3 that year, almost 4 by xmas. So we are talking the previous year, xmas 1954, i was almost 3, my mother had started working that september, i think. Anyway, i distinctly remember, 2 & 3 cent stamps. And feeling horrible about mistakenly sealing the envelopes. The beginning of my spendthrift ways!

Gak. My sis and I were the stamp lickers in our house too. Just thinking about it, I can taste the stamp stickum. Gak.

Ugh, same, stamps and envelopes. Awful taste. At some point, Hallmark (I think) put some sort of flavoring on the envelope glue to make it almost a maple syrup flavor--those envelopes weren't so bad.

Texted new T this morning about the scheduling change, and to see if it was correct. He texted back, "Actually can you do Friday at 11:15?" Glad I'm can be flexible but now I should see if our in home therapist can push back our appointment so I'm not rushing home for that.

Seeing D's T (P) with H later this afternoon. Not looking forward to it. We opted to see her together (instead of her seeing D) this week because D was freaking out at H picking her up from school and being home with her for an hour last week while I was out for a bit after seeing Dr. T. But now D seems to like H again, so I figure H will just minimize it all. Or something. I dunno...I just don't feel like going.

I'm having a "I don't want to be at work" day today. I'm at work though. I just don't want to be. I want to be at home, in bed. I don't know if that is the depression, or the med changes, or something else entirely. I'm just so sick of being tired. It's like a deep lethargy and tired feeling that just isn't going away. I also feel sedated. I could just stare into space for hours. I might just lay my head down at my desk for a little bit. I won't sleep but it might just be enough to get me past this. I really can't afford to ask for a reduction in hours right now, even though I think that might help me. I can't think of any other accommodations that would help me with this depression at work. HUGS if you want one, Kit

I don't send out cards, but it would be about the acknowledgement for me.

Do you sit on your own? Maybe you could play some music? I would also rest a bit if you're not feeling well. The sedation could also be due to your new meds.

I like to send out cards. I send out around 20 at Christmas and hand out about another 40. I send out cards for Easter and sometimes Thanksgiving. I send out cards for random holidays too, like St. Patrick's Day. I just like getting cards so I send them out. But to the OP, CE, yes, I think it is about acknowledgement, like Lemoncake said. HUGS Kit

Yes, I have my own office. It's about 8 feet by 12 feet so quite a bit of space. I could listen to music. It might help. I'm tempted to put my head down so that way I'm at least not laying on the floor which I really, really want to do.
