Has anyone sought therapy online? If so, what are the rules regarding meeting with the therapist in real life? Of course, in a professional setting/ office..

Hi Flinders40,

My English is not very good but I see that no one has responded to your post for many hours. I do not have answers to the questions you ask so I hope people with experience will eventually respond to you with helpful information.

You ask an important question in my opinion and I think answers to it would help many people seeking the same kind of information. so I am grateful for your post.

So very sorry I could not be helpful to you. I do wish you only good things. -- Yaowen
Thanks for this!

Most online sites (at least the ones I have tried) have rules against meeting the therapist on any other platform than their own. So that would include in their office, email, etc. My guess is that it is the therapist that would risk more than the client. They could be terminated from the platform. The client could too, but it's fairly easy to set up a new online profile as a client. You might just need a different email address and credit card. They don't screen clients the same way they do therapists. Most websites will have a terms and conditions page that would probably tell you for sure.

I’m already a patient of an online therapist. I ask because I’ve really connected with her (after trying so many therapists in my city). Thing is - she lives seven states away. Travel is not a big deal for me and if things continue to go well I’d eventually like to meet her in-person.

Interesting thread, I haven't tried online therapy (but have thought of it)
