I had the most amazing bighearted therapist that I felt comfortable opening up to and telling all of my childhood trauma, but she terminated me when I did suicidal planning, which still kills me.
Anyhow, I have a therapist, but I can't open up to her at all. She's very nice, but a small percentage of people have what I would call a beaming big heart that I'm searching for. Does anyone of such a therapist in California or how I can find one? Has to be female because I was tortured by males in childhood. Her office doesn't have to be by me so long as she offers video therapy over the Internet. Thanks! |

Where are places to find psychologist? There are a few popular website such as Psychology Today, but only a small percentage of psychologist advertise there. Isn't there a place that lists all psychologist?

Haven't you only had two sessions with your new therapist? Maybe give it a little more time? Sorry, I don't know anything other than psychologytoday.

From what I understand a good number of therapists use Psychology Today, because it's so well known. Unfortunately there isn't a better way to find someone than to sit down and meet with them. Whenever I'm looking I usually line up appointments with a few people so that I have options. Fingers crossed I won't need to look for a while.

You could try the find a psychologist feature on Goodtherapy.org -- that's where I found my psychologist. Maybe look for someone with a Ph.D or Psy.D. These are just my recommendations; obvioulsy you don't have to follow my advice. But I remember my psychiatrist saying to me that for my problems, I needed someone with a Psy.D or Ph.D in the field because they usually know more about meds than someone with an LPC, MA, or whatever. I'm not sure how true it is. But I opted to find someone with a Psy.D and it is working out great. Hope that helps.
