Does anyone role play in therapy?

My T and I recently did session where we took on a different role. I liked it and want to try more.

We feel weird doing role play... It's too awkward, to the point where we refuse to do it usually.

I am not sure about your choice of pronouns. We as in the therapist refuses because it is awkward? I think it helps since it is make-believe and you can practice difficult situations in a safe environment.

Oh sorry, "we" is "me" technically. I am diagnosed with DID ( multiple personalities) and use plural pronouns sometimes.

I'm not sure why it's awkward for me. It just always has been. I cannot get myself to do it. I either start laughing or shut down completely. It would be extremely helpful for me if I could do it. There are several things I could do it for. I just can't do it.

My T has extensive training in psychodrama and will gladly do role play and other similar techniques. T is very gentle about it as I am very uneasy about role plays. He does them very naturally and has gone very slow with me and made it very comfortable and beneficial.

My T makes me do role plays occasionally. I HATE it. I t is usually only when I am going to have to have a conversation with my mother or someone at work, etc. I must admit it does help but I still hate doing it, totally embarrassing. I don't mind playing the other person but I hate playing me.

I've never had to do this in therapy. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like it.

We did it once recently. I'm considering going to a med prescriber and am feeling anxious about talking to someone new about my mental health issues, so we role played part of that conversation, mostly the suicidal thoughts part of it. It was actually helpful because it pointed out where I wasn't willing to go.
