My old t left her counseling center and I have been assigned a new t at the same center. She gave me the name of the new t and I looked her up and she is an LAMFT (Licensed Associate Marriage Family Therapist). I am going for individual therapy, I am not married and never have been and I don't have too many family issues really. Is an LAMFT experienced in individual therapy as well? I have a bad feeling about this but I have terrible insurance and this t actually accepts it so I want to try to make this work.

They work with individuals. You don't have to be in a relationship for them to work with you or for them to be effective.

Both Info and No. 3 had MFT degrees and licenses. No difference between them and the LSW or LPC's I saw. It's just the credential.

My therapist has a license in marriage counseling. She does seem to work more with couples and when I asked her if I should meet with someone else, she told me she started out doing individual therapy and could help me. She has been good with the individual therapy.

I have worked with several. They weren’t good matches for me but it had nothing to do with their degree or licensing. My current T has his Masters in marriage and family therapy and then went on to get his PhD and is a licensed psychologist. He is wonderful. You can still see the heavy MFT leanings in him and he loves facilitating group therapy but he is wonderful as an individual T too.

ETA actually, come to think of it the T’s with MFT training have been more balanced T’s as a general rule. The T I worked with from the same school as current T did not have an MFT background and she was professional and stuff but not great.
