Today my therapist prescribed me Risperdal for my insomnia. ( I have been diagnosed with Bipolar 2 and GAD by him) I looked up the usages and it seems it is prescribed for schizophrenia and psychosis and can actually cause (side effects) insomnia and anxiety! Of course I will talk to him about it, but does he think I'm schizophrenic and is not telling me? I'm probably just being paranoid (maybe I am schizophrenic, I dunno) Ever wonder if there is something they are not telling you?

It's for Bipolar too and one of the few meds approved by the FDA for teens. Sleepiness is another side effect so whether it will help with your insomnia or give you worse insomnia, your guess is probably as good as his. LOL

Maybe he's just stumped with whether any meds will help and is trying anything that might remotely?

Good luck!

It is also currently being used by my 9 year old son to help minimize agitation and anger.

Hi Violet, you're singing my song. I thought the same thing when my P-doc recommended Seroquel in addition to Neurontin, Prozac etc.

There are many off label uses for these drugs so I wouldn't worry.

It is not uncommon for Risperdal to be used for anxiety. A lot of meds have an FDA approved use and those are the uses you are going to read about-- but a lot of them have other off-label uses, just like Risperdal being used for anxiety.
