So I have been really sick the last few days, a lot of vomiting, and I still feel really nauseous. I have a session via Zoom online with T tomorrow, and I don't know if I can do 50 minutes without feeling sick. (I'm not pregnant btw).

Is it weird if I tell her at the beginning of the session, and let her know I might need to excuse myself if I start feeling sick. Or should I just cancel the session entirely because I honestly feel so poorly. But since it's online, and I don't have to travel to get to therapy, and I do have some stuff that I need to talk to her about, and also Christmas break is coming up, and we won't have any sessions for like 2-3 weeks.

I think it’s best to tell her in advance that you might need to excuse yourself, and see how far you can get through the session, if she still agrees to go ahead with it.
Thanks for this!

Honestly I'd try to reschedule because I don't think I could keep my mind on therapy if I felt that awful. But if you do want to go ahead with the session, it's good to give her a heads up that you might need to leave suddenly so she knows what's going on.
Thanks for this!

I'd tell her in advance, whether at the start of session or in an email or text (if she allows that). Also, if you need to step away to be sick, depending on how far the bathroom is, might be good to mute your mic if you have time.

I hope you feel better soon and are still able to do your session.

Personally I would reschedule if I was that sick. Sessions can be hard work, I don't think it's a good idea to them when you have a stomach bug.

It is definitely OK and considerate to tell her at the beginning of the session.

I think it would be useful to contact her today, tell her what's going on with you and see if she can fit you in on another time before her vacation. It might be the case that she's doing paperwork on Monday but will see you.

I hope you feel better soon!! Take care of yourself
Thanks for this!

here where I am they reschedule when sick, reason being sometimes people can say they are sick at the moment when things get tough in therapy and the T marks it down as any number of reasons depending upon what that agency calls getting sick at the hard parts of therapy sessions.

so rather than the therapist trying to figure out if the getting sick during therapy is mental (anxiety, stress, avoidance of issues and so on) they prefer if you know you are sick to cancel the appointment. this way the stress and so on of the appointment doesnt add to the physical problems because some times mental problems can affect how a person can concentrate, or address their therapy issues.

for me I prefer to cancel. I really dont want to be sitting there in my therapy session talking about a problem while at the same time thinking Im going to what ever during the session. just un needed stress for me tp be worried about physical sickness while trying to talk about my other issues. I prefer to be fully focused on what my sessions are for.

I think it might be better to reschedual for another time. It's no fun having a session not feeling well. I hope she can see you next week before the Christmas break and I hope you feel better soon.

With my video visits, I did tell my T at the beginning of one that I wasn't feeling well digestively so if I get up and leave in a rush, that was why. It seemed totally fine and reasonable. I've seen my T long enough that she knows that is not how I deal with stress of a session.

I’ve done sessions before when not feeling good, and they weren’t productive. Now I reschedule when I am sick.

Did you end up having your session? If so, how did it go?

I hope it went well whatever you did. If I felt badly enough to vomit I would probably reschedule but that's me

Thank you everyone.

My session went on ok. I explained that I was sick, and what was happening.

She convinced me to go to hospital to get checked out so that's what I did after the session.

Currently in hospital getting treated, waiting to see a specialist tomorrow so hopefully that goes well.
