So the NYT Spelling Bee persistently accepts "iliac" but not "ilia" from which iliac derives (like iliac crest).

It accepts other Latinate medical words (labia, cilia just today).

So I emailed them. Got a form auto-response.

"While proper names and words that contain hyphens or apostrophes are not part of our word list, every Spelling Bee puzzle is hand-curated to focus on relatively common words, with a couple of tough ones here and there to keep it challenging. In fairness to our wide-ranging audience, Spelling Bee generally avoids terms that are hyper-specific to any professional field, such as terms that might be familiar to, say, a physician or geologist, but not people outside of that area of expertise."

Jeez, be consistent, people. Cilia is a common word? Iliac?

I had to bite my tongue multiple times this morning in responding to a student's emails. Email etiquette is a definite issue. You'd think by college they'd have this figured out, but my son, who is a senior and on the receiving end of many student emails for the organization he heads, constantly fusses about horrible email etiquette and he's a college student himself. Some have it; many do not.

My parents do 99% of the cooking in my house, mostly because I go to work and they are retired and partially because even though I'm a grown woman there is still that parent/child dependency I think, which is as much my fault as it is theirs. I think all of us have gotten stuck with me in the "sick" role. But as I am getting better, mostly, I have my setbacks, I'd like to change some things. Anyway, I've been trying to transition my parents to eating one night a week of vegetarian but so far that hasn't been too successful, although I was successful on Sunday. I figure if it is going to be successful, I'm going to have to start cooking and do some vegetarian dishes myself. Anyone know some good vegetarian cookbooks? Because I'm not the world's greatest cook. And my parents do not like tofu so not one with a lot of tofu recipes. I just think it might be healthier than eating meat and potatoes or meat and rice or meat and noodles every night. But I'm not looking to give up meat completely. Just transition to some alternative dinners. And preferably cookbooks that aren't terribly difficult. Because like I said, not the world's greatest cook. Thanks couchies!!!!

Same response I got a few weeks ago. Why even have an email if they're just going to ignore it with an auto-reply.

Hi couch friends. Had my worst therapy nightmare come true today. It was surreal and horrible and I'm in shock. Just need to feel like I'm not alone right now. Because I am actually all alone now. Thanks for reading. And if you're so inclined then please give me all the hugs. I need all the hugs.

Thanks, I ordered the last one mainly because it came in a spiral bound option. Unfortunately it's not going to arrive for a couple of weeks but I suppose I can get by until then with what I do know. I'm hoping it can help me get healthier and my Dad needs to eat lots of veggies anyway because he has gout and the gout medicine gives him headaches so he has to do it with diet. And he can tell when he doesn't have enough veggies. His toe starts to hurt.

ACK! The General Manager said he would do my evaluation after the break (2PM is break time). Suddenly I'm nervous. I was feeling very confident the day I filled out my self-evaluation. Now I'm not as confident. I don't think it really matters as I don't think we are getting raises this year. That's the only part anyone really cares about. I already know what I put on my list for goals for next year. I'm sure the goals are fine.

My work evaluation went well. No raise though. No raises for anyone except two people getting promotions. But the General Manager had good things to say so that was awesome. With as much time as I spend on here at work I shouldn't really get an awesome review but oh well!

The General Manager did say they will review raises in 6 months. I wonder if it would be prorated or halved. Like if you were going to get a dollar would you then get $0.50? It doesn't really matter to me. I don't make loads of money but I make enough to support myself. It's more important that they think I am doing a good job.

It's cold here today. We got spoiled with 70 degree temps. Now it is in the 40's, with cold air blowing because it is windy and it's like I need another sweatshirt!
