I'm trying to start with a new Pdoc because my old one was really bad. On Thursday, I called the only 3 PDocs I found who didn't have horrendous reviews online. I left messages for them in their own voicemail or an answering line and have still not received a call back. The info online for them say 2 of them work daily until 7/8pm and all 3 work Saturdays.
I don't know how to find any other docs since I used every resource I have to get these names. It feels unwise to call again since it seems like the fact they didn't return my call is a sign they won't be responsive if I'm a patient, even if I can get an appointment with them. I'd love to hear others thoughts |

Dont always trust reviews of people. Remember, only people with bad experiences usually leave reviews. Call you insurance company for more names. Ask if they know of docs that do telemedicine.

I agree with sarahsweets. Oftentimes people leave reviews only when they're angry. Also, some people who see pdocs are severely mentally ill and experience paranoia, etc. that influences the review they leave for a pdoc. For those reasons, I would be cautious about trusting reviews of a mental health provider.

Should I give up on waiting for a call from these docs at this point? Does it make sense to call again or is no call back by now a sign I shouldn't?

For the ones you've contacted, it hasn't really been that long since Tuesday. Looks like you're in the US, and yesterday was a federal holiday, so many may have been off work that day. I'd give them another couple days, and then, if you were really interested in them, try reaching out again. Maybe try over email, if you have access to that for them?
Based on my past searches for T's and Pdocs, I'm guessing there are some who have no reviews online at all. Have you tried contacting them? And I agree regarding people mostly only leaving reviews when they're upset about something. I think of a past primary care doctor I had who had a few bad reviews. I needed to see someone, so I gave her a shot and really liked her. I only changed doctors because I moved. I think checking with your doctor for referrals is a good idea. Do you currently see a therapist? You could check with him or her, too. Or if you saw a therapist in the past, you should be able to reach out and ask them for referrals as well. |

I would take reviews seriously. I don't agree with the idea that because it's a psychiatrist they for some reason or above being reviewed by clients

I agree with everybody who said don't base your opinion solely on online reviews.
My pdoc only has one online review and it makes her sound HORRIBLE. I am not the only personwho thinks she is amazing. All my pcps and therapists have shared mutual clients and all highly recommend her. The poster of the review though was angry because pdoc hung up on her (prefer covid) because the client was verbally abusive. __________________ |

My pdocs have always had a staff to handle intake for new patients so I never really talked to them until my initial appointment. It sounds like these do not which can create issues in getting hold of them. I have always preferred to work with doctors who have a staff to handle scheduling, etc. because I can always get to one of the staff to relay my message.
Finding a truly good pdoc is not easy. Are you on medication that requires a pdoc? If you are using insurance, start with their list, but it sound like you may have exhausted the usual ideas for finding a pdoc. Could you check with your therapist or even your primary care physician for recommendations? |
