Hugs, Artie... I'd likely be in panic attack mode, too. I'm glad it's solved now.

Hi, everyone! I haven't caught up on the couch. I just got out of hospital (medical floor) after being there since Thursday night. A bad flare-up of my Ulcerative Colitis. It's been 11 years that it's been stable, so I guess I was due?
Doc said it could have been indirectly related to the gastric bypass surgery, or stopping my med for the first month after surgery. Plus all the added stress from two extra classes and trying to function on too few calories. In any case, I'm exhausted but glad to be home. I still have grading to do for one class, plus just a couple of students for another class...it will get done, somehow. I've been crying a lot today, though. My last flare-up continued for 9 or 10 months, 5 or so ER visits, it was such an ordeal. I don't know how I'm going to manage the special diet for UC along with the bariatric diet... they contradict each other. Oh, well. Tonight is just soup and popsicles! MP -sorry to hear that but glad you are out of the hospital now. Good luck on coordinating the conflicting diets

Hugs, MP, I'm glad you're home now. I hope this flare-up is short-lived. Do you have a dietitian from getting the bypass surgery? If not, maybe you could consult with one to help you figure out how to find food that would fit both diets?

I made tuna melts for dinner.
Cats are happy, guys are happy. I forgot I hate tuna melts. (Actually, maybe I've never actually eaten one before.) But it was easy so on the balance I am happy too. __________________ Since you cannot do good to all, you are to pay special attention to those who, by accidents of time, or place, or circumstance, are brought into closer connection with you. The vaccine side effects have struck hard; at 3am I woke myself up trembling so hard. My oldest is babying me with advil and a neck massage and extra blankets. This sucks even though I was expecting it, somehow I didn't think it would be this bad or I might not be affected by it. If anyone has any tips please share.

When did you get the shot? For me, the worst of the side effects went away around 24 hours after they started. I had a bit of lingering fatigue and achiness, but the chills had stopped. Also, sleep, or at least rest, as much as you can. Hope you feel better soon! |

Thanks everyone. Got the vaccine yesterday at 11am. At 3 pm I had to leave work due to joint pain. I slept off and on until 3am when the chills started. Body felt like it was locked in place from stiffness. Advil and massage helped a lot and I was able to sleep again.
I've got a big container of ice water next to the bed, and plan to get up and move around and stretch regularly to keep things loose. People at work who went through it before me are saying it will pass about 24 hours from now. It's good to know I'm building a strong immune response and it's good to know it will pass. I appreciate you all! Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk |

My husband should be discharged by the end of the week. I will be taking a leave of absence, probably through the end of the school year (only 3 weeks left), so I'm getting lessons and instructions lined up. I think I have it all pretty well organized.
I'm trying to figure out how we're going to manage him at home, so my brain is on overdrive. He'll be mostly in a wheelchair and I'll be having to transfer him from chair to bed, etc. He's lost 50 pounds, almost all muscle mass, so he is weak as a kitten right now. Very certain we'll still be handling most things in bed because even getting to a toilet taxes his oxygen levels still. It's going to be a challenge, that's for sure. We'll have some home health services, but not 24/7, just a few hours a week, so it will be mostly on me to handle things. But insurance wants him to go home, ready or not. Medical bills are well over a million dollars already. If the doctors had their way, he'd stay in rehab for a couple more weeks, but insurance will have the last word - as always. |

Hugs, Artley...that's awful. Makes me think of what happened with my grandmother years ago. My aunt (who was on disability) had to move in with her.
Isn't this as a result of him having COVID though? I had thought that insurance was supposed to fully cover anything COVID-related? I know they could likely still limit rehab, but you shouldn't be stuck with all those medical bills. |
