Yes I am starting to think it won't be helpful.

I still think it's worth a try. So much depends on what therapist you get (and you can always try different ones), what you put into it, etc. Many of us have been greatly helped by therapy.

It just seems like a tremendous amount of effort that might ultimately be a waste... I feel like the effort would just take my life worse. I think it sucks that these therapists can't be professional and get back o me -- but i that is the state of the profession... doesn't sound like they have strong work ethic.

It depends so much on the therapist in terms of work ethic. For example, when I first contacted mine a few years ago, he got back to me within the hour. He was also less busy then, but I get the sense that he still gets back to potential new clients quickly now.

However, there are some potential therapists who I contacted when I was looking back then or when I considered changing a couple times who either never got back to me or took a week or two. And a couple who got back to me within a day.

Some (like mine) are willing to add an extra session to their day sometimes if a client needs one. And who allow out-of-session contact in some form, like email (current and past therapist) or phone calls (past therapist, but not my current one). Others have very set hours and don't make appointments or allow any outside contact at all (aside from scheduling). Some only work 3 or 4 days a week; others work 5 or 6 days (not 8 hours every day).

So it really depends.
