My last T would start the session, then put her laptop in her lap and start typing and doing stuff. The last in person session I had with her in October 2020 she barely looked up at all from her computer. My current therapist has a desk top and she doesn’t use it except for one weird time which I put a stop to. But last session she just sat in her chair across from me with a note pad. I asked my old t about the computer one time and then the next week she didn’t have it. But then she had it again the next session.

My mental health team frequently use the computer to touch up my notes on the system, look up something, check my last appt with someone or check a medical thing as its all connected to the health system notes on me. It doesn't bother me. They will tell me what they ate doing. My therapist hasn't got access to any of the above so she just sits back in the olden days before covid and listens to me and write notes after I leave

My therapist has a desktop computer on her desk off to the side. She only gets up and goes to it if she needs to do something with scheduling (changing our usual time). I think my EMDR therapist has a laptop, but I've never seen her use it because she does scheduling on her phone. Neither have taken notes in session after the initial few.

Wow, that would really bother me if my T was using a computer the whole time, if in person. I mean, right now, my T is using his computer, but that's because we meet virtually, so we're on our respective computers. He'll occasionally look up something on his phone, like if I'm mentioning the weather, he might look that up. He'll take occasional notes on a steno pad.

In person, he only rarely took notes, like he didn't even have the pad on his lap. But a couple times he picked it up off the table to take notes. His laptop was sitting across the room, and the only time he went to that was when I was paying at the end (or beginning, because I changed when I paid).

ETA: And he does all his scheduling on his phone, whether in person or virtually, so he is holding that when we schedule (but we schedule a few sessions at a time).

I barely remember even seeing a laptop in my therapist's office. I think there probably was one on his desk, but he didn't sit at his desk. He did take a few notes, usually at the very beginning of each session - we had a routine of starting with a check-in that he seemed to record (how's my sleep? what's my depression level? - that sort of thing generally). And I know he added to those notes after our session as a brief (very brief) summary for his own recall (he showed those to me a few times when we were trying to remember something we had talked about at an earlier session). But that was about it.

My pdoc took a lot of handwritten notes for obvious reasons and eventually those became electronic - pretty standard medical practice stuff.

My T used to use his laptop all the time during session until I told him it bothers me. I knew he used it to take notes and that did not bother me but he would constantly be clicking otherwise and I asked him what he was looking at. He said he was going through old notes to find when I was having the same situation last. He then stopped using it and only took naps on a sheet of paper each session until we went to virtual visits.

Now he is starting to do it again. I said something again and today he pushed himself well back from the screen. I have to admit he does know everything I have said and quotes things from years ago so I guess it helps him somewhat except he usually has not been on the computer when he comes up with these quotes.

No. If he even has a computer in his office, I wouldn't know. He doesn't take notes during sessions, and knowing him I strongly assume they are hand-written after the session. He has used his phone a few times, but only to turn it on silent when there's been calls interrupting us. I'd be bothered by the use of a computer, I'm not even sure about how I'd feel about a therapist taking notes during our talk anymore, I almost feel more comfortable if my T forgets something I told him but at least listens to me without distractions.

L has one of those electronic note pads. She takes notes sometimes and sometimes draws me diagrams. She just uses it in place of paper. If it bothers me, I'll tell her and she'll put it away.

No, she doesn't use a laptop during session. She does keep a notebook in her lap and takes too many notes. Sometimes I feel like saying, "If you would spend the energy listening to me instead of spending the energy to take lots of notes, you wouldn't need to take so many notes!"

If my T was on her laptop during session...I don't think I could keep seeing her.

I had one therapist take her notes during session on her laptop. It didn’t really bother me. None of my other therapists used it regularly unless we were doing something regarding billing or scheduling.

Neither of my Ts ever sat at their desks. Ones laptop was always in her bag. Thr other has the computer on her desk but does not sit near it. She has used I twice in one of my appointments once to print out my receipt as requested. Theother time I asked her a question that she didn't know the answer to so she asked of she could look it up.
