My last therapist yelled at me many times then quit doing session after one session. I felt really hurt and broken. I did phone counseling and was berated on the phone for calling in.

That must have been rough.
It sounds like the problem was with the therapist, though. That's not professional behavior at all and you might not have benefitted from further therapy with that one. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise...? Now you can find a better (behaved) therapist you can work with... |

Perhaps try speaking or texting with a listening line such as Caring Contact - We're Here To Listen?

I had a similar experience. Really strange behavior from someone who should know better. I have heard that therapists are not always mentally health themselves.

That true. I called a phone counseling one day and was told to never contact them again.

Yes I have lots of experience with therapists who are not mentally healthy themselves. I think most T’s need to be in there own therapy or if they are bad enough not be a therapist at all when it causes harm and re-traumaization. |

I’ve had about 3 actual professional therapists in my life. I had one who was always saying she didn’t believe me about the bullying that went on when I was a kid and she also made fun of me one time when I was a bit whiny. She imitated me when I said “why” she also commented on the way I dressed and when I tried coming out as trans in 2011 she told me I was just confused. That really made me upset and I didn’t try coming out again until November 2019. Then she stopped seeing me after a rupture and didn’t switch me to somebody else and I ended up in the hospital a few weeks later. Every therapist and Pdoc I’ve seen since is on the same page that things were her fault and not mine.
But I have a feeling the same thing is happening again.

I started with a new therapist did one session and she couldn’t see me because she see her clients in the afternoon and I had no way to get there. Then threaten to have me committed to a state hospital because of past suicide thoughts or because I was very depressed at a teenager.
