Hi all, so next week I’m seeing my therapist again after a two exact months summer break.
I’ve known her for a while but went back to her only recently. Now, I have a hard time opening up especially on first sessions after a long break. Since my first session is usually a mess with all the “how did it go” and the “all good thanks” and I won’t really address anything,, do you have any hints on how to make it somehow useful? How does your first session go after a break? AmI the only one feeling blocked? __________________ Everything will be ok in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end. |

My T takes a two week break twice a year, and sometimes sessions don't happen for a week or two because of illnesses and so on.
That's already enough time for me to starting to feel blocked. So you're certainly not the only one, especially after such a long time. I try to get used to my T in the first session back, so I usually don't pick the most difficult topics. Unless I've struggled big time during his absence, first I'll talk about what has happened in my life, if there was anything. Kind of to get him up to speed on ongoing things in my life. That usually takes up 15 minutes or so. The rest of the time I usually spend talking about having to rebuild trust after the break. And sometimes also about my fear or him not returning, stuff like that, if I feel up to it. My T usually does a good job in taking it a bit slow as well as helping me rebuild the trust, so most times I'm back to "normal" by the next session. |

My first week back after a vacation is hard for me as well, the session is usuaply spent doung very little if any deep work. Most of the session tends to be about reconnecting. I personally feel it is also therapeutic because of my abandonment ississues.

It never made a difference to me. I would cancel for a couple of months or the woman would go on 6 week vacations. It was the same pointless horrible endeavor no matter
