I don't know why the nurses at the VA call us like this for stuff that doesn't matter. I was too tired when I was on the phone with her to figure out how to ask why the hell she had called me before 7am on a Sunday to ask me this inane question, and there are so many issues with this program that I shouldn't waste what social capital I have trying to change this system. But just UGH why are they like this?!??
By “they” do you mean why nurses in general are like “that”? Or specific nurses in your unit?

Could it be that the nurse in question thought that this question isn’t inane? She or he couldn’t find anyone else to answer? They are stressed and too tired to know what time of the day it is? Pandemics and being understaffed got to them?

As a wife of an RN on a second shift I can promise you that my husband often doesn’t know if it’s day or night and what time is ok to call people because for him when he wakes up it’s morning while for us first shifters it’s an evening. There are so many different scenarios why the nurse call you at that time. I doubt it was malicious.

Most nurses in most settings have it very rough now. Maybe not in your area. Here we have a huge shortage. And pandemics wouldn’t ease up

Congratulations. It’s so very hard. As a former smoker I can relate. But it’s so rewarding to be a non-smoker, in the long run. Chew on something or eat crunchy foods. Gum. Eat baby carrots. Replace smoking with a different routine. Hang in there. 51 hours is an excellent start

Instant Pot owners, am I going to regret buying a 6 qt Duo Plus model? I've always heard such good things about them, and I'm about ready to take the plunge. I recently ordered a whole bunch of heirloom beans that I joked, although I was kind of serious, with my therapist were a way to fill my broken heart. I do have a slow cooker, but I feel a lot more can be done with an Instant Pot even though I'm a vegetarian. Anyone who feels it was a waste of money or rave reviews? I'm open to all opinions.

I'm having such a hard time lately. I'm having an existential crisis, one of several I've had, and it feels like everything may implode. I need something stupid simple to focus on like buying an Instant Pot.

I really enjoy mine. It’s only a waste of money if you don’t take the time to understand how it works and cooking it lol. Almost everyone I know who complains about the instant pot or says they threw there’s a way never really bothered with it. You don’t have to be a chef just go on Amazon and look for a cookbook a simple one. I got the biggest one I could I can’t remember if that was eight or nine. I think they have one a step down that small or if it’s just one person I got that one for my mother. It’s helped a lot this summer because I can cook so many other things without heating up the whole house.

NP, I use my Instant Pot weekly. I was skeptical because so many other kitchen “must haves” turn out to be meh. I thought nothing could live up to my slow cooker, but the IP has definitely been worth the $$ and the storage space. It ticks the boxes: versatile, easy to use, and it cooks perfect beans.

I haven't bought from here before, but one of the Washington Post food columnists, Joe Yonan (who also published a cookbook, Cool Beans, that's just bean recipes), talks about Rancho Gordo as a bean source.

I use mine all the time. My favorite vegetarian recipe is of course the red lentil chili that i used to talk about all the time. I haven't made that in awhile, i need to again. I also make hard boiled eggs in it, I know those are easy on the stove too but my problem is I get distracted and forget about them on the stove and the water boils dry then I'm afraid to eat the eggs haha. I don't have to worry about that in the IP. Plus, after an ice water bath after cooking they peel SO easily.

I bought an Air Fryer lid for it too, which I use a lot as well!! One of our favorite things in it is the air fried cauliflower. H thinks it tastes like popcorn and I use all different spices on it to give us different flavors. I made air fried donuts using biscuits a couple times, h really liked those too.

I know you said vegetarian, but air fried bacon is awesome. It cooks perfectly every time and I don't burn myself anymore like I always did cooking it on the stove.

Well last night my case manager from the insurance company and I decided it was time to terminate. She said with IOP I have enough on my plate and I agreed with her. I did get a little better with depression and anxiety since I started talking to her in May. She said to keep her number and if I find I need more support after IOP is over to call her and she will put me back in the program. I thought that was so kind.

I have individual therapy today with the IOP therapist. I'm a little worried because I emailed her quite a bit yesterday--3 times I think--(crisis with my sister being the precipitating factor) and I'm worried she is irritated. She said to print out my emails and we could discuss the contents in therapy but obviously we would have to pick out the most pertinent sections--which I need her help on because it all seems pertinent to me. I'll take the video call from work and just shut my office door. I already talked to my boss about it and he's fine with it. My T is kind of strict and she definitely pushes so I'm a bit worried. I'm sure I am just catastrophizing. It will probably be fine.

That's awesome, Scarlet! When my h quit smoking he did it by chewing a LOT of gum. I wish you all the best with it. I was never a smoker myself but I have heard how hard it is to quit from friends. H is a stubborn SOB so I think that helped him quit once he decided he wanted to.

My mother fell victim to a scam once. I'm not sure of all the details about how it worked, but someone claimed to find a bunch of money in a parking lot and somehow they convinced her to put in some of her own money and they would turn it in somewhere or something. I think she lost in the thousands. I could tell she felt embarrassed by it so I never pressed for details.

We get obvious scammer calls all the time - I get so mad at H when he thinks he's just playing along with them and giving them bogus information. I'm like dude, don't even TALK to the a-holes. Just hang up. Who knows what they can figure out while you are staying on the damn phone with them?! He refuses to just hang up half the time and it's so frustrating. I'm paranoid maybe, but you never know.

The IOP psychiatrist just asked me if I wanted to be IP--like if I thought I would be safer there? (Probably I would but I don't want to be IP.) So I told him I don't want to be IP. So he increased the dose of my Latuda, so I called my regular Pdoc and left him a message telling him about the change. I don't know how many refills this guy did so I might need to have more from my doctor if my doctor approves.

I feel like kind of abandoned by my therapist today. I'm vacillating between being numb and having panic attacks and she's like if you want to email me just write it out and then print it, don't send it, and we'll talk about it on Friday. Blah. I'm not going to write something if she isn't even going to read it. I'll tell her what the pdoc said though.

I think I need to think about whether I need to be IP. But I just really don't want to be IP. UGH. And now I can't email my T and express my worries about it. I guess this is "distress tolerance." Bleh.
