What would you do if you were uncomfortable in all of the available places to sit in T's office?

I would bring blankets and sit on the floor. We have both sat on the floor for sessions before when I've asked to.

I've almost asked to sit on the floor several times. I hate the chairs there, but He shares the room with other people so I guess they weren't his choice.

Could you take a stadium cushion, like they use for stadium seats?

I'd bring in a cushion to sit on. I usually have a backpack,so it'll fit.

I never really pay attention to how comfortable the chairs are. My current T has a small couch though which I find kind of awkward to get into at first because I sit in the middle and I have to navigate a table that’s too close. But I don’t pay attention to if it’s comfortable or not.

I have thought about asking to sit on the floor one time just to mess with her. This was with a different therapist though.

I'd just put up with it, but one of my therapy goals would be to assertively discuss the chair issue with my therapist instead of being in quiet discomfort.

I would be mindful - sometimes they don't have a say re the office furniture. Unless it was their own private office... which is not always the case.

Since I'd have a difficult time getting off the floor (or even bending down to get on the floor, for that matter), I would probably bring my own folding chair with a cushion. The folding chairs tend to have a bag with a sling that comes with, and a cushion could fit inside a bag or backpack.

I'd first tell the T about my feeling uncomfortable in the chair, and then tell the T about my bringing my own chair.

I've not had that issue since I see my T solely through Zoom (ever since the pandemic hit). I was able to assert myself through that. But if I had to return and deal with the chair issue, I'd be vocal about it. I would understand if the chair wasn't fixable or replaceable, as some T's can't afford a replacement at that time, or as some T's rent the space and have no say about the furniture.

I agree with the comments above.

I thought this was an excellent question!

L and I sit on the floor every session. Not because her seating is uncomfortable, but because her seating placement is too far for my liking. It's much more intimate to be closer. We do have an ottoman between us, but it's used as a table. Plus I like it because I feel like I get to hide a little behind it.

But if the seating was uncomfortable, I'd definitely bring it up.

If the T has a waiting area, maybe bring in a chair from there.

I'm another person that sits on the floor when in person. When I first starting seeing T, she was in a clinic and we often used different offices. Some where better than others. And some of those we'd sit on the floor and others we would not. When she had her first private office, I mostly sat on the floor because we'd move our therapy there. I liked the couch there the few times I sat in it. She moved offices and got new furniture that is all leather or fake leather. I really dislike leather furniture. I've only tried to sit in one of the chairs one time. I hated it.

Bring it up to your T perhaps she has a chair available or can bring in one from the waiting area, bring your own chair if there is space, ...

I guess it depends a bit on which ways the chairs are uncomfortable and if there's a way to make them more comfortable.

If I was to meet my T in her current office for the first time, I wouldn't have even given her a 2nd visit as the arrangement is so to my disliking. If you are new to this T and have not really created a connection - I think it is a fine reason to look for a different T.
