Watching Death Valley Days. This episode stars the woman who was in the Anacin (aspirin) commercial in the 1960's who snaps, "Please, mother! I'd rather do it myself!" My life is complete.

I wanted to like Joan Didion's writing more than I actually did.
Although The Year of Magical Thinking was the one of hers that I identified with a lot.

That one is my favorite. Besides the subject matter, it also made me realize how many of us do fall prey to magical thinking very, very often.

She didn't always write about interesting subjects.

Yeah but her beautiful diction just sucked you in. Like reading a symphony. Back in the olden days when there were bookstores, i would pick up a random mystery novel say and honestly it was so poorly written it hurt my ears.

I really hate not having a car i miss just going out for a drive and i cant seem to find an alternative activity to replace this. I tried calling a taxi to take me out for a while but it took 40 minutes for the taxi to turn up and by then i didnt feel like going and spent a miserable 20 minutes walking along the beachfront in 36 degC waiting for the taxi that i called 5 minutes after getting there. I am abit depressed about the whole thing and i am not really into Christmas and i feel i am being a disappointment to my daiughter and her bf. Sorry to be a downer today.

H got the job! We haven't signed papers yet because it's the holidays, but he might start as early as next week! The job has it's downsides: it's a 1.5 hour drive and the pay starts at his last job's rate. The pros though are a lot: he only works 4 days a week, 2 days a week are from home, and after 6 months his salary will almost double. With the single case agreement hopefully going through, our money in savings, our tax refund, and his new salary, we shouldn't run out of money. This is the best Christmas gift we could have hoped for!

Congrats, Scarlet! That's a long drive, but if he only has to do it two days a week, that's not too bad. And the doubling in salary is awesome!

H and I just went for a walk around our neighborhood looking at all the christmas lights. It was really nice, it was even his idea, how about that. I enjoyed it a lot! I think there are more lights up now than there were when we drove around not long ago.

i'm watching the Christmas Eve service on Facebook that's taking place right now in the church I grew up in back in the midwest. It's making me a little homesick, truth be told. The area the church is in, is a fairly dangerous area nowadays (it wasn't at all when I was a kid) so it surprises me that they have as many people in attendance as they do. I got a lump in my throat when the video started showing the sanctuary. I spent a lot of time there growing up - sang in the choir, played bells, went to youth group, etc. And of course the memories of my Grandma, coming strong right now, we always ate dinner at their house on Christmas eve then opened presents then went to the midnight service. Several years in a row I played the Angel in the live nativity the youth group put on. My family on my mom's side way back, were founding members of this church after they came over from Germany, so it's still very special to me. Oh now I'm going to cry - Joy to the World just started. I love the sound of the old organ. SO beautiful.

Merry Christmas!

My oldest gave me a giant surprise gift and I cried. I gave my youngest a Switch game and she sobbed while playing it. All aboard the feels train.

I hope you all have a safe and wonderful day!

Merry Christmas! Sounds like a lovely, emotional day.

I was on the feels train for negative reasons last night, but heading to my parents' in a few minutes and hoping to turn things around there. Well, OK, I guess they went pretty well this morning--H really liked this one shirt I got him. No tears, but he liked it! D got "gift-opening fatigue" and will finish opening tonight. Of course, so far, the stuff I thought would be a hit, she didn't seem to care about, and one of the little things was what she was into.
